The Green Bay Packers did something that they've struggled to under Mike McCarthy and that's win in front of a National audience. Since 2006, Green Bay is just 3-7 in primetime regular season games. Week one marked McCarthy's fourth win in primetime. What gives? For one, this Packer team showed the maturity and discipline that other Packer teams haven't. Maybe it's just one week, but I think Packer fans have plenty to get excited about moving forward. A disciplined football team is a good one and that's what Green Bay is. I think part of our problem in primetime games is the youth of the team. The Packers are still the youngest team in the NFL, narrowly edging out the Colts, as far as I know. Maybe the excitement and hype that surrounds any prime time game gets to the young guys in a way that it doens't for the older players.

The difference between this young Packer team, compared to the last couple of years is that, even though they are young, most have been here for two or three years.

If possible, young but a lot more experinced at playing in prime time.

Every team has to have it grizzled old veterans to show the young guys how to win in these situations. The Packers have just enough scattered throughout their lineup to make it work.

Woodson, Harris, Pickett,Clifton, DD to name a few.

Agreed..

We lost no one of importance over the offseason.

We went out and got a hired gun to run the defense.

We have assembled a defensive coaching staff that is jacked up and motivated.

We have a QB that put up rare numbers last season, his first year starting.. and looked to have the poise of the elite in the league.

We have a Receiving corp that can be talked about amongst the best.

And more importantly, we might be the youngest team in the league again, but we have the core group that has been together for a couple of season.

Just a few.

If Foster gets his way, we will certainly no longer be the youngest team in the league. 😉

I think this accounts for a lot of it. Although we did commit some stupid penalties (and received a horrible call on Harris) we were disciplined and won, where many of these primetime games in the past we could have (and should have in a couple of them) won if we would have played smarter ball.

I'm not quite ready to say that, the part about disciplined. Last year we averaged 6.875 penalties/game. We had 6 on Sunday.

I think they are a disciplined team . Last year there was a lot of penalties but also there were a lot of injured players, the replacements didn't step up.
This season those players are accountable for his role on the game and that they need to prepare for game even if they are reserves. We saw this in preaseson. Ex. Poppinga, Chillar, Bishop, etc.

6 penalties in week one is much less than ~7 average for the year, I would think.
