Packers work out QBs, WRs
The Packers worked out a pair of quarterbacks and three receivers on Tuesday, according to an NFL source.

The quarterbacks were: Chris Pizzotti of Harvard and Mike Reilly of Central Washington.

Pizzotti was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Jets in May. He was waived on Aug. 15, re-signed on Aug. 21 and waived again on Aug. 30.

Reilly was released at the end of training camp by the Pittsburgh Steelers, who signed him as an undrafted free agent. He began his college career at Washington State before transferring to the Division II school. He was the only Division II QB to be invited to the combine.

The receivers were: Taurus Johnson (South Florida), Derek Kinder (Pitt) and Nate Swift (Nebraska). Johnson was in camp with the Kansas City, Kinder with Chicago and Swift with Denver.

I've watched Taurus Johnson a lot (I went to USF). The kid can play. I like him more than Swain, but I guess I'm partial.

Positives: Good height and build for the position. Adequate deep speed. Adequate feet to gain separation. Secure hands for the reception. Generally catches the ball with his hands, but is a cognitive player who knows when he's going to absorb a big hit and will body-catch to protect the ball. Good balance and body control to make the tough reception. A tendency to make the big reception in critical situations. Good agility to make defenders miss in space. Has experience as a returner (20.1-yard kick return average from 2006-2008).

Negatives: Lacks the straight-line speed to challenge deep and with only adequate burst out of his breaks; will struggle to generate separation against NFL caliber cornerbacks. Exposed in this area a bit during practices at the East-West Shrine Game. Slowed with an ankle injury the last half of 2007.

Well, I guess my question from an earlier thread of whom Thompson would examine to fill the empty slot on the practice squad has been answered. He sure does like to take a look at the unknowns.

Really, I'd rather we sign a good vet QB, like Todd Bouman if he's out there, rather than another developing QB.

I think we're set at WR, Brett Swain solidified his spot on that fake punt.

it's always good to have someone on speed dial when the inevitable injury comes up, but as Finland said, Swain demonstrated why we selected him over ruvell, and obviously our other 4 are solid.

Practice squad fillers and developmental ideas, I highly doubt any of this are being considered for the 53..

I agree - I am also happy with our QBs and WRers. Not looking for another developing QB; now if we took one with some experience to back up rodgers Im all for that.

What I do think we need is a reliable kick/punt return guy. Ya jordy did alright vs chicago but I think we need a guy like chicago has; someone that is to be feared. I must have heard the word special teams 10,000 times in the past 6 months but we really havnt got a solid fear inspiring return man.

Id also like to grab woodhead from the jets practice squad (as I mentioned in a different thread). This guy can return well and he is a awesome back (similar to sutton but IMO better).

Business as usual. No reason to stop working just because the roster is set and the season is underway.

I wouldn't mind bringing in Mark Jones, he was the PR/KR for the Titans that carved up our S/T during the the preseason. He is a solid KR we could use while Blackmon is hurt. Also, I think Blackmon is now the dime corner on defense. With as much as we run the nickel, might be a good idea to let Blackmon get to full strength!

Isn't Jones banged up currently? If I remember right that played into him not getting picked up already.

beast (6h) : What is he supposed to say? He doesn't want players currently on the team?
Martha Careful (10h) : meh
Zero2Cool (15h) : Sounds like Walker and Wyatt will be with Packers for beyond 2026
Zero2Cool (15h) : It's so awesome.
Zero2Cool (15h) : new site fan shout post fast
wpr (18h) : Slow posting in Fan shout.
wpr (18h) : Only 4
wpr (18h) : Only 4
Zero2Cool (21h) : If only we had a topic to read about and discuss it. That's something new website must have!!!
dfosterf (21h) : Justice Musqueda over at Acme Packing put up an excellent synopsis of the Packers 1st round options this am
wpr (19-Apr) : 5 days
beast (18-Apr) : 6 days
wpr (17-Apr) : 7 days
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
