Keep the O-line in tack

A grammar gestapo sighting.. lol. ;)

Of course they are going to start Barbre, they hitched their horse to the kid, he has to pull the wagon now.

And of course, MM is going to expand that there were other protection breakdowns, if he doesn't try to deflect some of the blame it might bury the confidence of this kid.. and that can't happen at this point.. he is hitched.

There are blitz breakdowns is every game.. same play Grant failed to step out on Roach as well. But they did enough to give Rodgers 3 beats to throw the ball...

Barbre wasn't providing even that in the first half.. personally, watching the footage again, I think the kid was rattled and nervous on the big stage. Remember this kid played small school ball.. this is probably he first showing in the pressure soup with 60K plus on hand.. not an excuse, but he deserves another week to correct it.

I still would feel better with a solid plan B on the roster. By his performance in preseason, Breno isn't it. Lang?

JSOnline-Silverstein-same subject

Some excerpts from Silverstein's article.

"We can say we've done this offensively in the past, we've done that, we have this talent and that talent," offensive coordinator Joe Philbin said Monday.

"But right now we're not a very good offense.

That's a fact. That's what our performance on film in the game shows. Until we get another opportunity, that's where we are."

This time the Packers survived, giving them a little more breathing room to figure out whether Barbre is the right man for the job.

They absolutely can't have Rodgers getting hit like that again because not only did it threaten his health, it affected the entire passing game.

How exactly he - and the other linemen, for that matter - let the fundamentals of pass blocking escape them is anyone's guess.

Sorry was a real quick response, I am doing what a lot do these days, working and talking Packer football. Intact is what I meant to type.

As in don't make knee-jerk changes, it takes time to develope a solid O-line, give these guys a chance to watch the film and make corrections.

The Packers O-line has been a revolving door the last few years due to injuries and other factors, the guys starting this year have at least been together on the team for a couple of years, got to give them a chance to come together as a unit.

I'm almost disappointed. "In tack" would have been a pretty cool metaphor. ;)

But I'm going to agree once more with you and say I think Barbre should be given another chance. I think continually shifting players in and out will contribute to the same kind of instability we had last year. We kept 3 FBs on the roster, for heaven's sake -- get them out there on the field and protect our quarterback.

Mike McCarthy has to realize he's playing with fire here. If Aaron Rodgers goes down for any significant length of time because McCarthy wasn't giving him sufficient protection, I think we can agree that McCarthy's career is essentially over in Green Bay at that point.

Anybody but me see my obsession with signing a Garcia, obsession with O-linemen, obsession and anger when people bring the kind of Madden/Fantasy football thinking to want a Crabtree in the draft, obsession with a Runyan, etc. Anybody see all that and not see that what Non just said could easily come true?

If not, and Rodgers goes down in a heap....You will.

I was lulled into a false sense of security about the O-line in the preseason...I was obviously wrong! It's amazing how after all these years, we can't get 5 guys to open up holes, and protect our QB. The Bills had what, 2 or 3 rookies starting on their O-line last night, and for the most part were blowing up the Patriots!

But if the coaches are right, it's just technique and fundamentals, and can be fixed. Just fix it, PLEASE. Someone like Jared Allen will DESTROY Barbre, which would lead to destroying Rodgers...and we can't have that!

In grading the film, the coaches deemed Barbres mistakes to be technical errors and not cases of being overpowered and outmatched. If Barbre had been outmatched physically, he almost certainly would have lost his job. But because they were errors in techniques and fundamentals, theyre willing to give Barbre another shot.

OK, forgive my ignorance as I'm not the resident expert at blocking, but Barbre looked like he was outmatched physically. There was one play where Ogunleye threw Barbre with one hand the way Reggie White used to do that to OTs. Can someone explain to me how that's not being physically outmatched or is MM talking out of his butt?

It is all a game within the game. Reggie use to setup RTs for his hump move. It wasn't because he was physically beating them, it was because he would get them moving one direction and would use their momentum against them.

You see it all the time. DE's go wide again and again, then go inside when the Tackle overplays the outside. Same goes for our passing game. We have Driver run slant after slant, setting up the slant and go.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!
