Deion Sanders contends that it's Crabtree and his agent acting alone, and that his family has nothing to do with it. As Sanders points out, his family wants him to get paid! He says that Crabtree is willing to get paid nothing this year, knowing that he can make $40 million if he gets drafted next year. I think that's a huge gamble just as likely to blow up in his face as succeed. There's no guarantee any of the top 10 teams next year will be looking to draft a receiver in the first round, and if he falls out of the top 10 again, what will he do this time? I say, take the $20 million, outplay your contract, and renegotiate in a couple of years. The problem, of course, is that San Francisco's quarterback situation is terrible and Crabtree might not be able to outplay his contract. It's an interesting situation. He's playing with very high stakes, and I'm not convinced he has the bankroll to cover his bets.
