The situation in San Francisco between the 49ers and receiver Michael Crabtree is quickly going from bad to worse.

Per a league source, agent Eugene Parker is telling the 49ers that Crabtree will sit out the season and re-enter the draft in 2010, unless the team gives Crabtree what he wants.

Of course, what Crabtree specifically wants isn't known, since Parker (as multiple sources tell us) still hasn't made a proposal.

There's also a growing chorus of league insiders who are speaking out against the widely-believed effort by Parker to blow up the slotting process with Crabtree. Teams obviously would contend that the unwritten rules of draft-pick negotiation ritual should be honored; however, some of the agents who arguably would benefit from the introduction of chaos privately have described efforts to blow the curve as "inappropriate" and "unacceptable" and "wrong."

And if Crabtree opts to re-enter the draft next year, the current thinking is that he wouldn't be the first receiver drafted. For now, the guy who is regarded as likely to be the first wideout (and possibly the first overall pick) is Illinois junior Arrelious Benn.

Then again, if Crabtree is picked any higher than No. 10 after having a chance to engage in pre-draft workouts, he'd likely end up with more money than the slotting process currently would pay.

After, of course, waiting a year to get it.

Sounds like a high class guy who just can't accept where he was drafted.

If he does this, I hope that the teams will unite and don't draft this kid at all or will have him drop to the 49ers again in the 7th round. Very unlikely, but totally deserved.

I wonder what the ratio of "times agents/players threaten to re-enter draft' to "times players actually do" is. Gotta be pretty big.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

The awesomest thing ever would be if he held out the year and 49ers drafted him in the 7th round. That would be the most awesome karma moment ever.

It's a bluff to get what he wants. If Crabtree does this he'll lose money because he won't be near as high as a pick. No way doe a team take Crabtree who is out of football for a year and clearly has some baggage over Oklahoma State's Dez Bryant and Illinois' Arrelious Benn.

If I'm the 49ers, I call his bluff.

Obviously. His agent is the master schemer behind this. It would just be something if he is so confident about himself (With the way that guys like Deion Sanders have talked him up) that he overrides his agent and goes on with this crap. Like I said earlier, and Finland stated as well, the teams should just let him drop the the 49ers in the 7nd round in that case.

EDIT: After reading Dhazer's post, I'll remove a part of this post. Premature speculation. Sounds nasty.

well it isn't his agent saying this it is his cousin that is this so called source that don't realize that the 49er's own his rights so he can't work out for anyone. JUst a stupid cousin trying to get famous off of a relative.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Sorry Dave H, but that was funny.

If Crybabytree sticks to this plan, we'll be able to use that 7th rounder we got back from the Jets for him, although I think that is still a tad steep.

Mucky Tundra (3-Jun) : @ByRyanWood How much did the injury affect him last fall? “A lot.”
Mucky Tundra (3-Jun) : @ByRyanWood Kenny Clark said he had foot surgery in January. Injured his foot in opener against Eagles and played through it all year.
Zero2Cool (3-Jun) : Golden is wearing guardian cap again. I bet he plays with it on too.
Mucky Tundra (3-Jun) : All the stuff I'm reading from Lions fans are pointing at his toe; he more or less has permanent turf toe in one of his big toes

Zero2Cool (28-May) : LaFleur on Watson: “Christian is doing outstanding. I would say he’s ahead of schedule.”
Martha Careful (28-May) : Bradshaw is a dumb ass cracker. I am so tired of his "aw shucks" diatribe. He should shrivel up and go away.
buckeyepackfan (28-May) : He wad all butt hurt because Aaron duped the media saying he was immunized.
buckeyepackfan (28-May) : Bradshaw needs to retire. He's been ripping on Rodgers ever since the covid crap. He was all hury
Zero2Cool (28-May) : Terry Bradshaw doesn't want Rodgers in Pittsburgh lol wow
