I think if we want to put Harrell on IR he must first clear waivers (something to do with him being at the club for a certain amount of time).

I can't find where it was I read it. Can anyone confirm this? Would he clear waivers?

I don't mean to question you guys but I think your mistaken.

I never remember hearing anything about clearing waivers for the I.R.... and wasn't Tom Brady on the I.R. last year after the perseason injury? No way Tom Brady cleared waivers.

I don't think Brady was on the active roster ether.

I think it's the subtleties that are confusing people. I think the actual rule is a team cannot place a player whom they have released on injured reserve until he has cleared waivers. The sources I'm finding on this are confusing and fragmentary; when I find a solid source, I'll be sure to link to it.

I start with fixed idea and then fillit in and then make adjustments.

53 equals: 24 defense, 26 offense, 3 specialists.

24 defense changes this year with the 3-4.

Template says 7 or 8 D linemen, 7 or 8 LB's, 9 DB's

D line (7): Pickett, Jenkins, Jolly, Raji, Montgomery, Wynn, plus 1.

LB's (8): Hawk, Chiller, Poppinga, Kampmann, Matthews, Bishop, Thompson, Barnett.

DB's (9): CB Woodson, Harris, Williams, Blackmon, plus 1. Safety Rouse, Collins, Smith, Bigby.

Offense 26 is usually 8 O-line, 5 WR, 3 TE, 3 QB, 3RB, 2 FB's.

O-line (8): Spitz, Colledge, Sitton, Barbre, Wells, Clifton, Giacomini, Lang.
WR (5): Driver, Jennings, Nelson, Jones, Martin.
TE (3): Lee, Finley, Havner(LB and ST too)
QB (3): Rodgers, Flynn, Brohm
RB (3): Grant, Jackson, Sutton
FB (2): Hall, Johnson.

* Note where plus one is listed no one especially Harrell or Lee has earned that roster spot.

For grins the practice squad:

CB Underwood
LB Jones and Obiozor
OT Meredith
DE Talley
WR Swain and Allen
TE Evan Moore

At least one of the above will be signed elsewhere and Evan Dietrich-Smith is added late.

I think keeping Havner let's them go lighter at LB. The DB's are what will screw up the numbers most.

But then every year there are 2 guys make it I think should be cut and 2 guys cut I think should make it.

I try to do it based on talent more.... then again I did add Meredith just because I think most teams keep 9 OL and because someone needs to be backing up Clifton.

Why 24 for D and 26 for O? I generally think 25 and 25....

Also I don't see the Packers cutting Woodson, Harris, Williams, Blackmon, Lee or Underwood. Lee has been injured but has too much talent to cut and the other five have show enough on the field to not get cut IMO.

1) see my PM. You have to cut somewhere.

2) McCarthy is an offensive guy and the there is more talent to keep on the Offensive side of the ball. I think he goes with 26 O. Not a good reason but anything can happen.

3) The DB's are the ones that will affect other positions the most. What happens there affects everything else.

See the message I sent you, beast. We are not that far apart.

I'd cut Hall and Kuhn and move Wynn to FB. Dude's big enough, and he's tough. He can also pass protect.
As for Harrell, I'd keep him, but if I could pick somebody up from another team's cuts, I'd consider PUPing him or stashing him on IR.
A player does NOT have to clear waivers to go on IR, but you can't bring them back once they are on IR. You'd have to release them, and then they would have to go through the waiver process, where all the other teams could claim him before he would become a free agent. Then, when he's a free agent, you could pick him up.
So basically, IR means you're done for the season.

Yes he's big enough.... but then again big doesn't mean a thing... other than big... Jolly is big enough to be a NT.... but he would suck at it because he's style is one gap and NT is a two gap position (other than with the Cowboys). Just like I don't think Wynn style would let him be a FB. You have to block on the run which Wynn hasn't shown... he can pass block but that's about it as a FB... Kuhn would be so much better than Wynn as FB same with Hall. I don't think Wynn at FB would be a good thing... he's a RB.

Harrell is the hardest one to tell because it depends on his back and there have been no updates on that. He's career could be over or they thing he could play 12 snaps a game depending on who you listen to.

An attempt at the final 53.. "bear" in mind.. they will probably hit the waiver wire at least once..

QB

Aaron Rodgers
Brian Brohm
Matt Flynn

RB

Ryan Grant
Brandon Jackson
Tyrell Sutton

Hard to cut Wynn from the team.. but availability and durability final catch up to him.

FB (Keeping Hall and Kuhn both is a special teams consideration)

Korey Hall
John Kuhn (Can fill in the short yardage bruiser back role of Wynn, remember he was a HB at one time)
Quinn Johnson

WR

Donald Driver
Greg Jennings
James Jones
Jordy Nelson
Ruvell Martin (Wins out due to no one else really stepping up)

TE - Hell of a 1,2 punch

Donald Lee
Jermichael Finley
Spencer Havner

T

Allen Barbre
Breno Giacomini
Chad Clifton
Jamon Meredith

Moll's days end with the Packers.

G

Daryn Colledge
Josh Sitton
T.J. Lang

Spitz being able to move around on the interior allows the team to go with 3.

C

Jason Spitz
Scott Wells

DL

Cullen Jenkins
Jarius Wynn
Johnny Jolly
Michael Montgomery
B.J. Raji
Ryan Pickett

LB (Go with 8 plus Havner as depth.. hardest cuts here with Jones and Lansanah.. either might make the team if we deal a player)

A.J. Hawk
Aaron Kampman
Brady Poppinga
Brandon Chillar
Clay Matthews
Desmond Bishop
Jeremy Thompson (After seeing him stiff in preseason.. no sure about this one.)
Nick Barnett

CB

Al Harris
Brandon Underwood (kept because he wouldn't pass through waivers)
Charles Woodson
Pat Lee
Tramon Williams
Will Blackmon

S

Anthony Smith
Atari Bigby
Jarrett Bush
Nick Collins

Rouse is a bubble player.. can he come back and help soon is a major question... without having the inside information.. I think he is waived with hopes of resigning him at a later date if needed.

K

Mason Crosby

P

Jeremy Kapinos - (Unless Ted tries it again.. kidding)

LS

Brett Goode

Practice Squad bound?

Brad Jones
Danny Lansanah

packerfanoutwest (1h) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (1h) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (1h) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (3h) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (3h) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (3h) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (3h) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (4h) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (4h) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (4h) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (4h) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (5h) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (5h) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (5h) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (5h) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (5h) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (6h) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (6h) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (6h) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (6h) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (7h) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (7h) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (7h) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (7h) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (7h) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (7h) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (9h) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (9h) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (10h) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (10h) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (10h) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (10h) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (10h) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (10h) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (10h) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (10h) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (10h) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (10h) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (10h) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (10h) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (10h) : I literally just said it.
packerfanoutwest (10h) : show us a scenario where Pack don't get in? bet you can't
Zero2Cool (10h) : Falcons, Buccaneers would need to win final two games.
Zero2Cool (10h) : Yes, if they win one of three, they are lock. If they lose out, they can be eliminated.
packerfanoutwest (10h) : as I just said,,gtheyh are in no matter what
Zero2Cool (10h) : Packers should get in. I just hope it's not 7th seed. Feels dirty.
packerfanoutwest (10h) : If packers lose out, no matter what, they are in
packerfanoutwest (10h) : both teams can not male the playoffs....falcon hold the tie breaker
packerfanoutwest (10h) : if bucs win out they win their division
beast (11h) : Fine, Buccaneers and Falcons can get ahead of us
