I have yet to see Bigby get beat over the top or completely miss a tackle. That's where my concerns with Collins come into play. He's a bigger player on the ball, makes some exciting plays, but as a safety, gotta make tackles. Twice Beanie Wells made Collins look the fool trying to tackle him. So you say Bigby isn't a playmaker, but he isn't having big plays made on him, which is more important to me.

Kingdom22 -> Would like some elaboration on the point you are trying to make. Pretty general statement that you don't think Bigby is playing well or a playmaker, some context would be nice and goes a long way in a constructive thread.

Doesn't seem like the best fit. I want a bigger player like Rouse at SS. I think Smith is better suited for FS. As for Bigby, I have not been impressed with him last year or so far this year.

Wooooo talk about not the best fit.... just because Rouse is big doesn't mean he's better at SS.... if fact I'd say he's better at FS because he's tackling/wrapping up skills suck... yeah he can put a hard lick on someone but he hasn't figure out how to wrap people up yet... he tries to head hunt on the RB that have 40 pounds on him... that's just not going to work Rouse should be a FS.

As for Smith he's body says FS like ROuse body says SS BUT neither position are right for how they play....

Smith shouldn't be the FS because Smith has one mode... ATTACk!... and that's more like a SS than a FS.

point is Smith should be at SS according to the way he plays.

I think Smith has more upside than Bigby and has made some good plays while it seems like Bigby more or less hasn't made any mistake but not making plays. I'd let them battle it out and let the better one start....

I think the better one might be Smith.

I was referring more to Smith not having the body type that I would want at SS, not stating that I thought Rouse should be starting over him. Just that Rouse is built more like what I want at the position.

I have been disappointed in Rouse and am well on the way to losing all belief that he will make the transition to starter. Just not sure if Smith is the answer at SS.

I'm just glad we have Smith on the team.

If we hadn't signed him in free agency we'd be looking paper thin at Safety with Rouse and Peprah out and Bigby looking a bit off.

Smith Knows how to read QB's eyes and he is an experienced player. Rouse I am a fan of his but I don't it's his time yet to start.

......Honestly you seem you are talking out of your ass 90% of the time. But regardless, Anthony Smith only has 1 more season in the NFL than Rouse does. One of those seasons (last season) he spent the whole time on the bench because his coaches didn't trust him to be on the field. Got very little playing out of that season don't you think? I really have no idea where you are getting your comments from? Smith knows how to read QB's eyes? How do you know? You sure didn't see it from his last season from the bench, and I doubt you saw much of him if any his first 2 seasons unless you watch a good amount of steelers games.

I agree. Smith has appeared to be in the right spot in coverage most of the time this year. That was his big knock in Pittsburgh, getting burned too often and too easily.

Bigby can be flashy, but always seems to be underachieving. At this point, he's mainly a solid tackler. Like said before, he hasn't been that hard hitting, interception getting guy since the play-off game against the Seahawks.

Not saying that Smith is better than Bigby at this point, but it does give us some much needed quality depth at the position. Don't want to see Woodson back there again.

As to the orignial questions. I think our defensive backs are savvy. Being just regular smart doesn't always help. Just ask Alex Smith or Ryan Fitzpatrick.
