Haven't really played any of the new Maddens.. But I wanted to throw my 2 cents in..
When I did play Madden, I don't actually play the sport within the game. I let the CPU do that (alot of times it's WAY too easy, or the AI cheating thing). I just like to play GM and train all my young guys into All Stars. Then I trade them away for draft picks, and start again. In that process, I found to be able to bring in a few Super Bowl trophies. Mostly, though.. I'm just a playoff team.
To me, the fun is training/trading/drafting. Not the actual game itself (that, and considering that the game the past few years has been buggy).

Agreed - though I usually play the game itself for a little while, it's either way too easy or way too hard (I'm not a big gamer, so there's that), and I get tired of that quickly. Then I move on to Franchise mode and play GM - that's more fun for me in the long run.

I do this a lot as well. (Have a nerdy notebook file full of franchise results, lol) This year, it's a little harder to see everything, though. They took out the weapons (Don't mind it in the game, but it was great to see the strengths of your players in the franchise) and, for some reason, you can't see where your players are drafted. That annoys me bigtime, especially with the amount of late round steals you have now. I just want to gloat when my 7th round FS turns into an elite player.
That said, drafting has become way better. Had some huge problems trying to sign FAs with my cupcake team, but it was more realistic. Having some salary cap problems already, though, as my O-linemen want idiotic amounts of money and the rest of the guys aren't coming too cheap either.
Have any of you played NFL Head Coach 2009? That looked like a great game.
