Is it just me or does it seem like every time the Packers face a third or fourth and short McCarthy decides to run up the middle right into the opposing teams d-line. Does anyone thing we should run Grant to the outside with a sweep or pitch play?

I don't see that at all. If it was the other way, and we ran a sweep and didn't get it..People would go..WTF is he doing going outside on 4th and 1!!!...See..you can't win either way sometimes.

He was conservative in the redzone last season.

Really your offensive line should be able to block for a 1 yard run easy.

I'd personally like to see mccarthy dial up some counter runs from further distances though.

Considering how many QB sneaks McCarthy called last season I wouldn't say he was that conservative. He got crticised a bit for trying to run it too often in the redzone, but it's catch 22, make the TD and all's well, don't make it and you're criticised.

Our QB had something like 16 TDs and 0 Ints in the red zone, though (Don't know if those are the exact numbers). Might've been a result of the conservative play calling a bit, but it wasn't caused only by that. Rodgers just made some great decisions in the red zone as well.

Maybe McCarthy just wanted to get Rodgers in nice and easy. Get his confidence up. Get the fans' confidence in Rodgers up. It sure does look like it has paid off. He looks so much more confident and his accuracy is still amazing. Maybe even improved over last year.

My only frustration with Mike McCarthy yesterday was the same frustration I had with him last year: the called runs on 2nd- and 3rd-and-long. In my opinion, McCarthy took whatever puff of breeze was blowing out of Brohm's sails when he called that run on 2nd-and-15, which I think every one of us was predicting. Now if McCarthy's conservatism last year was designed to preserve Rodgers' confidence, fine -- it's obviously paid off in spades. But Brohm doesn't have a foundation of success yet; he desperately needs little successes to develop any vestiges of self-confidence. I would have preferred to see him throw it downfield for a WR to make a play and just see what developed.

Ah, well. Overall, the team is looking amazing, so I guess it's time for me to to just let McCarthy do his job.

So far this preseason, MM hasn't seemed to be to conservative early. He has let things go with the 1st team and Rodgers. Though as the 2nd & 3rd units have gotten into the action the play calling seems to have changed. I hope that is because he is calling things different to scout the players he has questions about. And during the regular season he stays the way the plays calling has been early in games.

Last night it was 19 passes in the 1st half, only 5 in the second. I think that was to test out the RB that are fighting for a spot.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

I afraid this is what is contributing to Brohm's lack of confidence.
