Two things for me.
1. This is the time we need to try and get better at our deficiencies. Running up the gut is one of them. A big reason we tried to get bigger up front on the line, get more inside rushing. I'd rather us do it now when the games don't matter then make it a work in progress during the season like last year.
2. This is preseason. Last night I saw the Cardinals in the second half play call to win the game. We got burned on some repeat plays. i didn't see the Packers dialing up the same exact plays a lot. I believe the play calling was for the coaches to evaluate the team, not just to win.

Overall, I think the points on the board tell me all I need to know about the play calling.

Considering how many QB sneaks McCarthy called last season I wouldn't say he was that conservative. He got crticised a bit for trying to run it too often in the redzone, but it's catch 22, make the TD and all's well, don't make it and you're criticised.

Yea, I don't think he's conservative. And I've loved his play calling so far this preseason.

So far this preseason, Mike McCarthy hasn't seemed to be to conservative early. He has let things go with the 1st team and Rodgers. Though as the 2nd & 3rd units have gotten into the action the play calling seems to have changed. I hope that is because he is calling things different to scout the players he has questions about. And during the regular season he stays the way the plays calling has been early in games.

Last night it was 19 passes in the 1st half, only 5 in the second. I think that was to test out the RB that are fighting for a spot.

Nice post. With nothing to really prove in the redzone McCarthy sure went back to last years play calling after the flag. A quick draw on a second and 16? Brohm had a nice series going there. A true confidence builder only to have Mike pull the rug out from under his feet. I would have liked them to keep throwing there and get Brohm a passing td.

This is an excellent point that illustrates a possible difference in philosophy between the Packers' and Cardinals' coaching staffs. I wonder which methodology better contributes to the overall success of a team in the long run?
