This must be another Packer homer.. ...

7 Points with Ed Thompson

Point 1: After years of boring quarterback matchups, the NFC North is going to be much more exciting to watch in 2009.

Prior to offseason moves, the NFC North's starting quarterbacks included Daunte Culpepper, Tarvaris Jackson, Kyle Orton, and the one legitimate top-tier talent of the bunch, Aaron Rodgers. But then the Lions used the top pick in the 2009 NFL Draft to add Matthew Stafford. Orton headed to Denver in a trade that now gives Chicago a feisty and fun-to-watch Jay Cutler. And Brett Favre is on the verge of a return to the NFC North sporting a purple and white Vikings jersey.

Now that's entertainment.

Should Stafford get the nod as the starter in Detroit, he'll go through the same painful learning curve that even Peyton Manning struggled through during his rookie season. But that doesn't mean that he'll be any less interesting to watch.

Cutler will be playing with a chip on his shoulder after basically demanding a trade out of Denver. A truly good guy who is out of the Favre mold when it comes to his love for the game, Cutler knows that the best way to shed his recently public relations problem is to be the type of quarterback that Chicago fans have been waiting for since Jim McMahon led the team to a lopsided victory in Super Bowl XX.

Too many people forget that last year was Aaron Rodgers' first year as a full-time starter in Green Bay, yet he managed to throw for 4,038 yards, fourth-best in the league behind Drew Brees, Kurt Warner and Cutler. He also finished fourth in touchdown passes with 28. Expect to see even more confidence and better results from Rodgers in 2009.

And in Minnesota, if Brett Favre and the Vikings seal their pact, he's the missing link that will complement the Vikings' powerful running game and dominating defense that will make the Vikings a Super Bowl contender unless head coach Brad Childress finds a way to screw it up.

I had a dream last night that it was the first game of the season... we were playing the Vikings and Rodgers threw an interception to Brett Favre. Yeah it makes no sense, but most dreams don't haha.

I cannot wait to see Rodgers with actual PROTECTION from the o-line.
Circular Arguments: They are a heck of an annoyance

I already see it happening. Rodgers gets killed behind our o-line by Jared Allen and the two Williams'. Pretty much like last years game. Favre has a decent game. The Vikings win 24-14. The trolls invade PH.com and a thousand topics pop up about Favre being the better QB and Ted Thompson having made a mistake... We'll have our work cut out for us, as members defending Rodgers. Not even to speak of the moderaters.

I got to say if farve playing for the purple gnomes just so he can say ... "See Ted you made a mistake!" - I could care less.

farve might have to be the one looking out for our players and not rodgers.

I'm watching sportscenter and they are showing the Twins and Yankees highlights when they all of a sudden show a kid with a Viking Brett Favre jersey, How the hell did he get one already.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

There's plenty of websites where you can have nearly any name put on a jersey of your choice. I think NFL.com does something similar.

True. But, they put a nix on that for obvious last names of current players in jerseys that are not their home team.

I.E. Even though one may order a NY Giant McNabb jersey, they would nix that.. for obvious reasons. I know, because I attempted many years ago (like 10?) to get a Favre Viking jersey, for fun. They nixed it.

But for VikesRule.. Hell yeah. I'm lining up to get a few as soon as they go on sale, just for a few fellow Viking fans that are vehemently opposed of Favre in purple.

I am copying and pasting a post I read this morning.

An analysis of the Viking situation written by a Viking player:

We got banged like a cheap whore and we should have never even put ourselves in the prone position. But its our own fault, instead of trading for Cutler or finding a long term solution at QB, Shit for Brains (aka, the head coach) drafted a Michael Vick wannabe who has the same accuracy issues as Vick without the same scrambling skills and then traded for a career backup as almost an afterthought. So, despite having the best running back in the NFL and a top 10 defense, we are doomed to failure because we are lacking a serviceable, not even average QB in a QB driven league. Now I have to go bust my ass in two a day drills for the privilege of watching the playoffs from my own couch, instead to playing in them in our stadium which we cannot even sell out.

Who would've thought.

2008.

Tarvaris Jackson/Gus Frerotte.
Aaron Rodgers. Unproven and injury prone.
Kyle Orton/Rex Grossman.
Jon Kitna.

This was the outlook about a year ago. What a difference a year makes in the NFL.

I sincerely think that Cutler is going to look average, Favre not much better, and Stafford is going to look like, well, a rookie. I don't think the quarterback race in the NFCN will be all that close.
