[I see Vick landing on a team that's desperate, I don't see us as being desperate. Our organization is too classy for Vick and the ensuing drama to follow. Don't think for a minute that PETA is not going to be at the door step of whatever NFL team signs him. Packers do not want another circus.

Don't you think Vick will need to go to a state say where an anual deer massacre happens, and not a state where the liberally inclined reside? .

"Cheesey" wrote:

Yeah.....MUCH better to let the deer over populate, and die a slow, agonizing death from starvation then to have hunters take the meat home and eat it. MUCH better to have carcasses rotting in the woods.
Of course PETA reps don't go into the woods to see THAT in areas where hunting isn't allowed. They just pat themselves on the back for being such "animal lovers".
With that said, I think Vick got what he deserved. HUGE difference between hunting, to purposely torturing animals. I don't want him here. To me, he never showed remorse for what he did.

Here PETA PETA PETA... lol..

However in reality.. dogfighting and such is where PETA should be active.. not in fly swatting, deer hunting and other controlled animal control practices..

The more I think about it from a football standpoint, the more I think it wouldn't be a terrible idea.

Imagine 3rd and 3 and you have Vick in the game as an option to throw or run. It certainly provides an added dimension to the offense and gives the Packers probably a higher percentage chance of converting those 3rd and shorts. Let's face it, 3rd and short was a tough down on the Packers a year ago.

I've been reading around and I can't believe the lack of knowledge there is from some Packer fans and other football fans. Some actually believe Vick's signing would be an indication of how the Packers feel of Rodgers and others acts as if Vick is going to sign for big money in terms of pro football standards. It's mind-blowing.

"pack93z" wrote:

The biggest issue in the football part that I see with Vick is getting him to buy into his part as a role player. He might not be the top backup to Rodgers... he might be a RB/QB options as you note here.. he might only have a snap every week or couple of weeks.

Can Mike Vick handle being a role player and not a thought to be more of a vital role in the offense?

"porky88" wrote:

I don't think he has a choice and based on the reports coming from his camps, yeah it looks like he would.

I do think if he were signed and something happened to Rodgers in week ten and GB needed a QB to start Weeks 11 and 12, Vick would get the nod over Brohm or Flynn. That of course is all what if though.

Hester and Vick sideshow?

Vick sighting in Chicago
Posted by Mike Florio on August 12, 2009 1:33 PM ET
Free-agent quarterback Mike Vick, who is expected by his mentor/adviser Tony Dungy to sign with a new team this week, has been spotted in Chicago.

WMAQ-TV, an NBC affiliate inthe Windy City, tipped us off to scuttlebutt of Vick heading to Chicago, and before we could track down whether it was accurate video of Vick at O'Hare Airport on Tuesday night surfaced at TMZ.com.

Bears coach Lovie Smith previously has said that he believes Vick deserves a second chance, but Smith has deflected interest in Vick.

"As far as we're concerned, we like the team we have right now," Smith said after Vick was reinstated on July 27. "So if you're asking me about whether we're looking for receivers or are we going to trade guys, we like this team. I don't think we need to add anything else at this time.''

But Smith used to work for Dungy in Tampa, and they remain close friends. Here's what we said about the Chicago option on July 28: "If the Bears hadn't already acquired Jay Cutler from the Broncos, we think coach Lovie Smith would have been Dungy's first target, given the close relationship between the two former colleagues. Even with Cutler on the team, the Bears become a Wildcat option for Vick, if Dungy can't place Vick anywhere else."

Then again, there's a chance that this is merely a Drew Rosenhaus-Willis McGahee phony phone call ruse, with Vick flying to Chicago in order to create enough of a buzz to get someone in some other NFL city to pull the trigger and sign him.

Call me a pedant, but my eyes tend to glide right over posts that have no punctuation or capitalization. I prefer not having to decipher another person's writing; I figure if they actually care about what they say, they'll expend the extra effort to ensure it's readable. ;)

But yes, I stand by my offseason prediction of 10-6 and am looking forward to the preseason game this weekend.

Sad thing is, I thought the Eagles were the best choice for him when I was making a list of teams he could sign. I should have voiced that opinion at that time. I'd have looked smart, dammit!

I didn't push the Eagles because of the west coast offense... but I was thinking Vick might be a good mix there because they have McNabb who is very mobile so they have plays already there for a mobile QB.

Well, I'd be lying if I said that the news that Vick was going to the Iggles made me happier than the news that Raji is (at least tentatively) signed.

Not by much, though.

Every team except for 5 has declined interest in Michael Vick. Green Bay is one of those 5.....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I'm willing to bet one of the teams that has 'declined' will end up signing him.

I'm with you, Zero2Cool.

If I had to guess, it would be one the "big public splash" owner types. The kind who tend to shrug off bad publicity as "any publicity is good publicity, especially since it keeps *me* in front of the camera". A Dan Snyder type.

Why do we want it locked so badly? If it generates some posts, why not keep it open. If it's going to be miss used, it can always be closed later on.

I, myself, am slightly disappointed that we didn't sign Vick. I mean, his deal is interesting, but it really doesn't cost the Eagles a lot.

A league source told NFL Network's Jason La Canfora that the Eagles gave Vick a one-year, $1.6 million contract with a team option exceeding $5 million for a second year.

I guess that Ted Thompson didn't feel the necessity to sign this guy, especially with so many question marks after 2 years of prison. Maybe he didn't want to cope with all the PR crap yet again. Maybe he just thought that his team was good enough as it is. Or maybe Vick just didn't want to come to GB at all.

I don't know, but still, it is slightly disappointing.

Sure you did, Zero. While you're at it, could you tell us your prediction for yesterday's weather?

Just kidding.

Seriously, I suppose Philadelphia was about as good a place as any for him to land. Not only do they have the mobile QB thing, but it is also a big city, which will probably be better for him. I think he would've stood out like a sore thumb in a place like Green Bay.
