Yes, he must wait five days to hire a new agent, but that doesn't change the fact that the reason why he still has his current agent is that he has chosen not to fire him. Therefore, ultimate responsibility for his holdout rests with him, no matter what excuses he might like to make for himself. If he wants to be in camp that badly, he can fire his agent, go to the Packers front office, and say, "Look, give me 5% to 9% more than last year's No. 9 pick, and I'll sign today." I bet for his reasonableness, they'd be pretty generous with him.

Blaming your agent, or any employee, is just weak. Real men and good leaders in general take responsibility for what happens on their watch.

You do realize what is involved in this process, right? You acknowledge the five days 'rule'. When are 1st rounders typically signed? Within five or so days of the teams training camp, right? So to fire your agent say three days before camp is just moronic. Keep in mind your agent is feeding you info 'youll be on time, u will no worries, this is just the process' ... etc.

There's the amount of years in the contract, being requested by player and team.

There's the CBA potential issue.

This is not simply cut and dry, fire agent, sign with team. I really can not believe someone with such a vast vocabulary as yourself can not grasp the magnitude of this process.

Find an agent. Contact them and have a nice discussion. You'll learn something, I assure you. Any agent, any firm, just contact one and ask them about this process from their vantage point.

Even if this isn't the Raiders' fault, I am still blaming the Raiders for this.

I think it's more greed and precedent trying to be set by parties involved.

Packers don't want to pay a billion bucks or whatever.
Agent wants to be able to use this pick as a marketing tool for his future clients so wants to get the most bang for his buck.
Player wants fair value and extra.

I saw earlier in this thread that someone stated that Raji 'broke' his promise. I'm sorry, but if I'm not mistaken you can't participate in Training Camp unless you're under contract.

So you direct your agent to do whatever it takes to have the contract signed by training camp.

I agree with you in theory. I think a lot of these (practically) kids are asked to trust their agent to be working for their long term best interests. That ain't always the case, either because the agent wants a quick payday or just has a flawed business approach that hurts the public image of the agent and the player (*cough* Bus *cough* Drew *cough*). I can see why many players would go along with it though. Guess I'm using the "easier said than done" defense for Raji.

You do realize it's not as simple as 'hey employee, get it done'. Right? The Packers have a helluva say in the matter too, lol.

I still stick with Agent 60% and team 40% with player being lumped in with agent obviously.

Referring to the previous poster, I don't believe Raji promised, but yes he did strongly imply he would be in camp. Sometimes, things are out of our control. Some simply fail to grasp that notion.

Naturally the team has something to do with it, but if the team is offering him, say, $15.4 million over 5 years with $9.7 million guaranteed, and he's holding out for $15.8 million with $10.2 million guaranteed, I put that on the player, not the team.

Obviously, I have no idea where the numbers are currently, but since the Crabtree situation hasn't been settled yet, I hardly think it's plausible to assume that it's the team that is being unreasonable. I'm sure the Packers are offering Raji a standard raise over last year's No. 9 pick. Maybe I'm naive in assuming good faith on the part of the team, but that's where my speculation lies.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
