This has been the story for the last few years. Ted Thompson rolling the dice with one good starter and the rest of the group remains unproven. So far everyones favorite GM has gambled correctly but if Rodgers goes down it's Matt Flynn time.

Here's a recent evaluation of Brohm

Brian Brohm needs to pick up his game during training camp. While nobody associated with the team will admit it, the second-year quarterback from Louisville has had a somewhat disappointing spring. He still appears awkward in the pocket and his accuracy has been extremely spotty

Not to promising.

Matt Flynn looked good last preseason in one game where he ALMOST led a 4th quarter come back drive. Hard to gauge a guys ability when he was probably playing against 2nd and 3rd string players

Aaron Rodgers
Matt Flynn
Brian Brohm

One of the more overlooked story angles lost in all the Brett Favre hubbub was how well Aaron Rodgers played. He put up legitimate Pro Bowl-type numbers in his first season as starter, with 4,038 yards and 28 touchdown passes. Problem is, the Pack struggled mightily on defense and fell to double digits in the loss column. While Rodgers seems to have proved himself at least on paper his backups leave zero safety net for Green Bay in case of injury. I'd be fine with Doug Pederson at this point.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be concerned with Brohm... BUT Rodgers sucked in pre-seasons his first two years. Just saying more time is need to be given them IMO.

But if Rodgers goes down so does the offense unless the OL and running game can lead. Which I think with Colledge, Spitz, Sitton and Barbre in they will be a much better run blocking OL but not sure that could carry them.

Also i was most surprised when one Bears writer wrote he thought Rodgers was the biggest snubs.

But you bring a very good point in that we don't have a proven back-up.

First of all most teams are not going to fare well if their starting QB goes down.
Secondly, if you read what was written about Cleveland there is another situation there. No true #1. Every time a QB has a bad game there will be pressure to put the other guy in. Not good for either QB really.

There's no question we need to keep Rodgers on the field but I am not sure Flynn couldn't come in and do as well as a lot of the backups on that list. He just hasn't played enough yet to know so they rightfully dock the package.

As far as the division goes would Flynn be much worse than Tavaris Jackson? I haven't even ever heard of the guy from Chicago on that list. So as far as I am concerned we're no worse off than most teams.

It's pretty much going to suck if you lose your QB unless, like NE, you find a guy out of nowhere. Who knows? Maybe Flynn could be that guy too.

The kid knows how to win. He's kind of like Tebow that way. Won't always throw the prettiest pass but will keep digging and will hurt you with his legs on occasion and at the end of the game you got more points than the other guys.

To be honest, how many teams will do ok if their starting QB goes down? Can anyone name five?
