Why the hell would we worry about extending Colledge?

He's in his contract year.

Big deal it's not like we can't replace him lol, we drafted o-lineman this year.

I think Colledge played better this year. He's still young and he could be our LT of the future.

I also believe it is a little high but if that is what it took to keep him in GB so be it.

I will gladly give Ted Thompson credit for getting this done.

Most of you know I follow this shit like it's my own money.

Here are the numbers, according to Silverstein (He is almost always right)

Jennings Payday

Jennings cashed in big on his new deal
By Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel
Jun. 26, 2009 4:30 p.m.
Green Bay -- Receiver Greg Jennings had a good reason to smile the way he did this week when it was announced he had reached agreement on a new three-year extension.
The Packers handed over $26.35 million in new money to the fourth-year receiver, an average of just under $9 million per year, according to an NFL source with knowledge of the contract numbers. The deal makes Jennings one of the highest-paid receivers in the league and undoubtedly will be used as a measuring stick for the next batch of receivers whose contracts are up.
As part of the extension, Jennings was given $16.25 million in guaranteed money, including an $11.25 million signing bonus, which he received immediately. In addition, his 2009 base salary of $5 million is guaranteed.
Jennings, whose previous contract called for him to earn $535,000 this season, will have a salary cap number of $8.154 million in 2009, second on the roster only to quarterback Aaron Rodgers' $9.652 million. The Packers are $21.5 million under the salary cap after the Jennings deal.
Jennings' base salaries are as follows: $5 million (guaranteed) in '09, $1.85 million in '10, $2.7 million in '11 and $3.885 million in '12.
He also has the ability to make considerably more through bonuses and escalators.
In each year of the contract he'll make an additional $25,000 if he plays in 12 games and the Packers make the playoffs.
In '10-'12 , he can earn up to $400,000 through a roster bonus tied to the number of games in which he is on the 45-man game day roster. He gets $25,000 for every game in which he appears. He also has $300,000 workout bonuses each of the next three off-seasons.
Finally, he can earn $2.95 million over the final three years of the deal through escalators tied to playing time and team performance. He can earn a maximum of $700,000 in 2010, $1 million in '11 and $1.25 million in '12.
The fact he'll be eligible for free agency in four years wasn't lost on Jennings. The Packers either didn't request or couldn't get him to agree to a longer deal.
Proportionally, he received more guaranteed money per year than Dallas' Roy Williams, who hit the jackpot last season with a six-year, $46 million deal that included $26 million in guaranteed money. The two sides probably used Williams' contract as a marker for Jennings' deal.
Though Jennings' contract was up after this year, there was no guarantee he'd become a free agent. Unless the players and owners reach a settlement on a new collective bargaining agreement before next March, the eligibility for unrestricted free agency will go from a minimum of four years in the league to six years. Jennings wouldn't have qualified and would have been forced to play in Green Bay next year.

If you are a cap follower, save this post. If something changes, I'll let you know.

Edit:

I have read this three times, now.

I like it.

It's a misnomer to say Jennings is getting an average of $9m a year. That is the extension and doesn't include the $0.5 we're paying in base salary this season.

Someone more clued up on this stuff than me broke down what Jennings will be getting paid over the next four years:

'09: 7.1825M
'10: 4.6625M
'11: 5.5125M
'12: 6.6975M

Those numbers are going to look even smaller after a couple more WR contracts get done.

Dont know if this was answered - but how does jennings $ compare to other top receivers in the league ... and if he's making alot more then most. Is he really worth this much ...

Is he as good as andre johnson, randy moss and larry fitzgerald?

That's 5.0 million in base this year, not 500k like (I think) you were trying to convey. . If we make the escalators AND (apparently) the Pack makes the playoffs, he will be right around an average of 9.0 million. Keep in mind that the signing bonus (the check he walked away with THIS week) was 11.25 million dollars. That is in addition to that 5 mil base. Your someone was speculating on speculation. Silverstein gets this stuff right, 99 44/100% of the time. He is also going to pocket whatever workout bonus for this year he had in his rookie contract, and it was probably quite hefty as this would be the last year of that contract. He does have an escalator this year if he plays in 12 games and the Pack makes the playoffs... 25k (aka cab fare)

THE close to 9 is accurate. (average)

EDIT:
And the 530k that everyone bandied about for this year is technically accurate, but doesn't take into account his pro-rata signing bonus of 310k which (super technically) is considered part of his pay for this year. The 310k is STILL considered part of his pay, the 530k is not...(because it was already paid and pro-rated accordingly)

I cannot find (and suspect he did not receive) a workout bonus for 2008/2009 offseason. He got 2,160. for 2007/2008 offseason.

Yes, the numbers I posted are wrong. But I still fail to see how $26.35m over four years can equate to an average of $9m.

I'm assuming the $26.35 includes the escalators?

TheKanataThrilla (1h) : Looks like we signed Clayton Tune as QB3
wpr (1h) : TKT people lose their minds over QB3. Point is almost none of them are ready that's why they are on the PS and other teams don't take them.
TheKanataThrilla (2h) : Unfortunately he doesn't seem ready to be an emergency QB.
TheKanataThrilla (2h) : As a Canadian and a follower of Canadian University football. I am rooting for him

TheKanataThrilla (2h) : Not sure if either will be claimed though.
TheKanataThrilla (2h) : Tune or Hooker would make sense
dfosterf (2h) : Clayton Tune cut by the Cards? Don't know if that's the guy, we shall see
TheKanataThrilla (3h) : Per Bill Huber, the Packers will not be bringing back Taylor Elgersma or Sean Clifford on the practice squad, so a new third quarterback
Mucky Tundra (3h) : Schefter must have deleted his tweet
dfosterf (5h) : Hopefully Jerry reaches under the seat cushions and ashtrays of his jet and scrapes up the 45 million apr and spares us further nonsense
