They were not "PC" enough for today's America.

How about this, I had to quit the job i was working on to go back to college, so i was told i could get some county assistance because of the lesser money i would be bringing home and i found this out.

If you are a full-time college student you have to work atleast 20 hrs a week to get help from them, but if i wasn't a student and wasn't working i could get all the benefits. Now does that make any sense, a person trying to better themselves can't get help but some lazy ass not doing nothing can get all the free money and help.

Nice example. Here's another...

A friend of mine is poor. And female. Her fault? She's white and has no child out of wedlock.

I had a neighbor who was poor but not as poor as my friend. She's not white and has a child out of wedlock.

My neighbor had her entire college paid for. She's no smartypants, so let's just say it wasn't for her grades.

My friend is a smartypants, but won't get **** because she's white and knows how to properly use birth control (my neighbor was reckless).

There ya go. Fair? Hell no.

Moral of the story - if you want to go to college, don't be white (and definitely don't be Asian, that's worse than being white) and have a child out of wedlock. Free ride, especially if you mark "unknown" for who the father is like my neighbor did.

So if I check "mother unknown" for my boys, I can get my college paid for? BRILLIANT!

I dont want to get too political but college is cheap and even if your friend had to pay for it herself, it would be much easier than trying to go to school while taking care of a kid.

Anyone can get a student loan and grants regardless of your skin color. Federal grants are for everyone. If your friend is over 23 or 24 years old, all of her tuition should be paid for with grants providing she meets the lower income requirement which used to be around 11k earned in your previous year. If your friend is under that age, she's not likely to get grants.

I'm not going to pretend to know you and your friends better than you but i'll just say that maybe there is more to the story.

Well, the problem is she isn't 24 yet, and her mother's an alcoholic and a loser and still uses her as a tax deduction (so she can buy more booze for her drunk boyfriend and herself).

So....

She's screwed. Can't get those loans until she's 24. If she applied right now, she'd get very little.

But yes, college is cheap, but the way the system works is you have to be 24 to get fully financed. That's what I did when I was 26 - went to Grad school and had my whole way paid for with loans, which I'm paying back today at 4.5%, which is a pretty good deal.

Yea, the same happened to me pretty much. Doesn't matter that I was on my own since I was 19 years old, they didn't care. So i just worked and took some classes until i figured out what I really wanted to do. By then, i qualified for grants and didn't have to do too much in loans.

Yeah, you have to be on your own for 2 years. You have to be able to show you made enough money to support yourself with 2 tax returns.

Grants are tricky. I got some, but not that much. You must have known what you were doing.
