Unreal is fitting.. sometimes this country seems crazier and crazier by the passing day..

More tragedy at Kampman's high school
By Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel
Jun. 24, 2009 9:46 a.m.

Green Bay - A little more than a year after an F5 tornado shredded his house and destroyed the high school where he produced four National Football League players, Aplington-Parkersburg (Iowa) football coach Ed Thomas was reportedly shot in the school's weight room.

According to the Des Moines Register, Thomas was shot in the head at point-blank range.

No other details were available.

Thomas has coached the Falcons for nearly three decades and has over 300 wins. He produced four NFL players from the tiny are of about 1,000 people: Kampman, Casey Wiegmann, Jared DeVries and Brad Meester.

Unreal.

A great man could be gone, just like that.

Terrible.

Just over a year ago I watched Thomas cry on the shoulder of one of his assistant coaches as he surveyed the damage done in the tornado from the football field named after him.

I'll leave you with this quote from Thomas:

The last thing I asked Coach Thomas before I left was, "Is there anything you'd like to say to Packers fans?" As his lower lip trembled and he fought back tears, this was his response: "Talking to Kamp, the reason why he loves Green Bay so much is, as he says, 'It's like home.' The blue-collar mentality that you've got up there. He said, 'That's just like what we have down home, coach.' I don't doubt it for a second. Those are good people up there. Just like we're good people down here."

Terrible.

I saw that tornado with my own two eyes . . . It came within a mile of my in-laws' house before veering off.

This is one of those days where I wish everyone was packing. The moment he had pulled his piece, six other guys could have jumped his ass. Thank goodness that according to the June 8 edition of Newsweek, pro-gun sentiment is rising in this country. It's long overdue.

By the way, Obama just signed a bill allowing visitors to carry firearms in national parks, and he has so far refused to entertain the notion of renewing the assault weapons ban. I'm impressed.

Goose bumb story. That's just horrible. When something happens to a public figure like that it's always tragic.

Was there any reason why he was shot?

We don't know yet, Detlev. No further details have been released. I hope for everyone's sake (including his own), the assailant was detained. Otherwise a wave of Midwest vigilante justice might have been unleashed.

The is no reason at all to commit such an act.. with that said.. lets hope it isn't a disgruntled player or parent of a player of a matter of something like playing time...

The sad reality of this country today.. is that it will only send a small ripple through the masses... when things like this should be sending thunderous tidal waves of change upon our nation..

Yeah, but this is the kind of incident that could cause gyms to start doing searches or installing metal detectors, and that would piss me off.

dfosterf (13h) : Beer brat and ticket is where the money comes from
dfosterf (13h) : The 40th is Titletown Tech itself. This is a pet project of both Ed Policy and Mark Murphy

dfosterf (25-Jul) : It's my one day deal complaint dept. on shareholder meeting day
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Probably a homer access credential intimidation kinda thing
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Meathead "journalists" skip this, concentrating on operational revenue when convenient. They switch when net revenue is more favorable.
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Resulting in an actual drop of net revenue of 12.5%. She is from Minnesota. Just sayin'
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Any plans to hold Maureen Smith (CFO) accountable for a 95% drop in investment revenue?
