NFC North Preview
By Paul Bessire, WhatIfSports.com

A computer simulation that runs each regular-season game 10,000 times has the Vikings winning the NFC North by three games and Percy Harvin exploding onto the scene. And that's without Brett Favre. Get the summary of each team in the division.

The simulation is pretty harsh on the Packers. Some parts may be a bit of a reality check, but some things are just over the top in my eyes.

Aaron Rodgers proved to be an adequate NFL quarterback who could start all 16 games in 2008. He is not an elite player and probably never will be, but he has some great weapons with Green Bay and works within an effective system.

Ok, it's been one season, but he had elite numbers. He's better than adequate for sure and what does he base the 'will propable never be' on? I guess this is going to be our Drew Brees or something. Just without the trading part, hopefully.

Overall the record etc. seem a little low to me. I'd say that we aren't any worse than the Bears and we certainly aren't just two games better than the Lions, who really haven't had a Miami-like overhaul this season.

Ya, Rock-

I was looking at that over at P.P.O. when you were.

My computer simulation says we are going to crush the Vikings and Paul Bessire's computer is going to crash.

I did a little legwork to find out just what a Paul Bessire, Senior Quantatative analyst for "what if sports" just might look like...After all, that is quite the title.

Somehow I am not as concerned as I was prior to my research. The quote on Rodgers is what prompted me to look... I thought the critique of Rodgers was rather profoundly moronic, coming from a senior whateverthehellhecallshimself.

Interesting that he is interested in the Packers.

Aah, yes. I think this might point us to what side he is on.

I don't mind the guy, though. He's just doing this for a living. For all we know, he could be pretty awesome. Although I don't know how he got that girlfriend.

I don't know what stats they input on their PC, though, or how accurate their past simulations have been, so I don't put too much trust into it anyway. Still, nice for a little discussion.

Their simulators sure do seem to like him. The Jets go from 7-9 to 10-6 with Favre throwing 3600 yards with 29 TDs and 11 Ints. Pennington and Clemens threw for a combined 2750 yards with 19 TDs and 14 Ints. Highly unlikely to me, as Pennington can play if he's healthy.

http://www.whatifsports.com/beyondtheboxscore/default.asp?article=20080717

The Vikings would've gone from 11-5 to 14-2. Favre would throw for 4150 yards with 35 TDs and 12 ints. TJ would've thrown 2700 Yards with 19 TDs and 13 Ints. Funny addition. Bernard Berrian would've been the second best receiver behind only Moss. He'd catch 11 TDs and rack up 1400 yards.

For those who can't be arsed to look it up themselfs.

I don't know what stats he's inputting. Sure, I believe that the Vikes would've been better with Favre and will be better with Favre, but this is is just crazy. His Vikings season from last year would've been pretty much been his second or third best in the league (1996 is argueable, I guess).

Well, if P.P.O. gets to cherry-pick statisticians, so do I.

Check this one out. Heck, we should have won the Super Bowl Last year.

I could make a computer simultate anything and have the results I wanted.

Garbage in Garbage out.

If Crosby made the kick McCarthy would be 6-0 against Childress. Now he is only 5-1.

As Bill Murray once said about the viklings "How can you take seriously a team with painted horns on their helmet?"

Brett Favre is not a vikling. He hasn't signed anything.
Don't you think the vikings will screw up any possible deal?

Some of you seem unfamiliar with vikling history of unsuccess.

The Packers have won the NFC North twice as many times as the Bears.

The Bears have won the NFC North twice as many times as the purple slime.

This is no time to worry.

When I get Madden 10 I'll sim the season and let you guys know the results. I'll forward it to Roger Goodel and he can tell the teams to forget about the season then.

Seriously, most of us would probably be taking this somewhat more seriously if the Packers came out good on it.

AR will never be an ELITE player, because some guy's computer said so.
o........k..........
I don't care if it said the Packers would be 19-0 next season. The games arn't played on anyone's computer.
