From Profootball talk. I'm a Ted Thompson supporter, but Ted, PLEASE PAY JENNINGS...A LOT OF MONEY TOO!!!!!

In February, the Green Bay Press Gazette reported the Packers were expected to begin contract extension talks with Greg Jennings.

In March, it was reported that Jennings was Green Bays top re-signing priority, ahead of safety Nick Collins.

Now its June, and there hasnt been a hint of progress from the two sides. Greg A. Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel details a recent encounter with the NFLs sixth-leading receiver from a year ago.

I kidded (Jennings) about buying up all the auction items at James Jones recent charity event. Jones and I both both said Jennings big money must be close to fruition. A dead-serious Jennings replied, Then you guys must know something I dont, thats for sure.

Jennings has laudably stayed quiet, shown up to practice, and isnt seeking to make this a big story. Hes taken the route we wish other wide receivers would consider.

Jennings is also one of the most underpaid players in football with a scheduled base salary of $535,000. (For perspective, less productive teammate Donald Driver is scheduled to make $6.1 million and not totally happy about it.)

GM Ted Thompson has built an excellent talent base by avoiding big free agent spending in favor of drafting, developing, and retaining his key pieces. The team has plenty of cap space.

The onus is now on Thompson to make a deal with one of the best draft picks of his tenure. If not, the players in the locker room may wonder if anyone but the quarterback is ever going to get paid big dollars in Green Bay.

sorry dfosterf...will do in future, and cheesehead, I think that's one of the things the article does a good job of illustrating. If T.O, Chad Johnson, hell even kurt warner were going through this situation, how much uglier would it be right now? Kudos to Greg and again, TT, PLEASE PAY THE MAN WHAT HE'S WORTH!!!

This issue was discussed in another forum today. (Yes, "our" Ironman Dave was referenced in the post -- his love for Greg is legendary  )

Whats up Greg?
With all the talk about Brent Favre lately, everyone seems to be overlooking something quite interesting? Where the hell is Greg Jennings?

If you watched any of our OTA video this past couple of weeks, you will notice a disturbing trend. No Greg Jennings highlights. I scoured through hours of film and the guy was either not there, or not practicing. The skinny on the subjectnothing.
It really starts to make me wonder if Greg is holding some sort of quiet protest behind closed doors.

1. OTA Week 1: Receiver Greg Jennings sat out team drills.
2. OTA Week 2: Greg Jennings absent for unknown reasons.
3. OTA Week 3: Limited participation.

Now I know Greg has a busy schedule with running the world, and fighting off hot women (and IronMan) at every corner. But, have we taken his god-like status to the point of no questions asked? I mean should we be treating this any differently than a Nick Collins? I must admit I am generally concerned.

The truth of the matter is that Greg missed an OTA, sat out another, and practiced in a limited capacity in a third. Yet, not a peep from anyone involved.

Reasons unknown.

Greg has noted on more than one occasion that he fully intends to be a Packer for the forseeable future. However, the fact remains there still has been no stated conversation about his contract, he is astonishingly absent from any meaningful installs during OTAs, and the strangest thing of all is it doesnt seem that anyone cares.

I will always be a firm believer that whoever you are, a contract is a contract. This should be treated no differently than a Ryan Grant or Nick Collins. Where was Greg, why isnt he on the field like he should be, and has he already started a silent dissention?

Aaron Rodgers summed it up best when he said:

This is a voluntary time right now, but I think that word has kind of been almost eliminated from our terminology here in Green Bay now, Rodgers said. We realize were a team. Everybody needs to be here and working towards a common goal.

It doesnt appear that our annointed super-hero is exactly on that same page.
More importantly, why isnt anyone talking about it?
Have a great weekend.

This is one man's opinion, of course...but some food for thought, possible discussion.

It will get done. This "hand wringing" will be for nothing.

I agree though. Start with the contract negotiations. I can't imagine that Ted Thompson would just let him play with this rookie contract. That's not the way it works, sad enough.

With his attitude and skills, he deserves that contract more than anythign else. If you ask me, he should've already had it. Mainly because it would set a great example. Just go ahead and do your thing and you'll be paid when you deserve it. A missed oppurtinity here, since they're showing that you have to be an ass to get some money.

It comes down to two things.

If there is a new CBA or not.

If there is, Jennings can be franchised.

If there isn't, he is a restricted free agent.

There is no time pressure at all.

I can't see Ted not signing Jennings. Jennings is arguably his best draft pick with the most potential and that'd be very hard to fathom him not resigning him. Jennings in my opinion, his character defines "Packer People".
