Yep. I remember Favre saying in an interview once that he never liked to hit 400 yards in a game, because every time he did, the Packers seemed to lose. It was the same season as the 399-yard Raider game.
In my opinion, it's not a necessarily a good sign when your QB is throwing for 5,000 yards in a season. It means, at the very least, you have no running game, and it probably indicates a lot of desperation drives toward the ends of games. I would far rather have my QB toss for 3.000 yards or so and my running game net 2,000 yards, because then you know you're KILLING motherfuckers.
