Yes, this article is intriguing on multiple fronts. It's possible, of course, that some of the assignments (e.g., Thompson at ROLB, Raji at DE) were an elaborate ruse for media consumption; but it's equally possible they weren't. A lot of people have mocked Jeremy Thompson over the past 12 months, but as we all know, it takes a lot to induce Ted Thompson to trade up; so he must have seen something most of us can't.
I also like that they're seemingly giving everyone a fair shake. By placing Raji at DE, it gives our other big men more reps to prove their worth at the NT position. It pleases me heartily that Raji didn't just waltz into camp as the heir apparent to the NT slot. It shows me that Capers is doing exactly what he said he'd do: adapt the scheme to the personnel at hand.
I also find the references to defensive "chatter" encouraging. In his first press conference, Capers talked about creating a defense that disguised its look until the last possible moment. Chatter is an essential element to such a scheme. I want our defense out there on the field communicating like a team, not sitting on their heels waiting for the offense to come to them.
Overall, an exciting report. But then, everything is always rosy in May.
