Am I the only one who thinks, that if Thompson thought there was a chance of losing Driver or Jennings anytime soon, that he would have drafted a WR somewhere? With the results of the draft, I feel much more comfortable that the deal is going to get done this year.

Either before the season begins, or in a time frame like Rodgers, to burn this years cap space on the guaranteed money. With about 29 million sitting there, Ted Thompson will be able to pay Jennings a very fair contract, without limiting future moves.

All signs and history point to this being the case.

My guess would be if the deal isn't done before the season it won't get done. Remember last year Jennings said he don't want to talk contract during the season and even refused to sign when they signed Rodgers. Like i said it would be stupid for any player in their last year of their contract to sign an extension. Don't give me that crap i will play for the Packers for cheaper because those days are gone.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be šŸ™‚ (PS, Zero should charge for this)

My prediction: Holliday, Carter, and Canty accomplish virtually nothing the rest of their careers, if the first two even have any more career to look forward to.

Well something is up on the radar in terms of Wides.. how many do we have in camp at the moment.. 12.. for at most 6 spots. That leads me to believe they are either doing on of two things.

1. Looking for a better 5 and 6 option.
2. Or they are looking to tuck a receiver or two on the practice squad for development of future depth.

Honest opinion.. Ted treats WR and LBers like Wolf treated the QB position.. his pet positions of cultivating talent. Hopefully the Linebacker talent follows the WR's suit soon.

It could get dicey on the pay. The 29.5 is a fantastic position to be in, but in just over 9 months, 19 contracts expire, one of which is Greg's. I think what is going to happen is that the rooks will get signed, all the FA options will get explored/signed, then the evals "fit-wise" will be made...some contracts might get signed before Greg's...I'm not saying this because Ted is ignoring Greg, but because it just might be the best way to go at that moment in time. (I hope that makes sense-last sentence-wise)

Collins is a potential monkey-wrench, for example...of course he is one of those 19 as well.

Edit--rather than post another reply--

That is a Packer m.o.

It's how Clowney got lost to another team... stolen from practice squad. Ted haters count that as a Ted mistake. (We took a $.25 dead money cap hit for that---this equals multi-million dollar dead $ cap-hits to the critics, but that's another story, lol)

You raise a good point. My personal belief is that Martin is gone (unless none of the UDFAs show promise) and Jones is on the verge of being expendable.

Always the chance that Jones performs as I hope and expect he will, and Nelson does also, which would put less impact on Jennings being let go, but if either of those other two do not come through, I expect Jennings to get his.

Jones was hurt all of last year. I am very high on Jones, and I think the Pack is also. He was the third best rookie receiver the previous year. I really, really doubt that Jones is on the bubble. I would lean towards "breakout player" for '09. It is an opinion, of course.

He is the physically strongest receiver we have, amongst a a very physically strong corps of receivers.

Edit---

On a side note...What the Fu## is going on here!!!!????

For Christ sakes, this thread is turning into a substantive discussion.

We can't have that kind of nonsense occurring while BF mania still runs rampant. What is wrong with you people?

I wish I was j/k. Maybe I am.

I think the 6 we will keep on the team will be Jennings, Driver, Jones, Nelson, Martin, and possibly Simmons. I don't see any reason to fret about the top 5 being "on the bubble".
