Engineer - It's all good. Differences of opinion are always a good thing.

One bad thing about community colleges is you have 3 types of students:
1) The student who is being forced to go to college because his stupid parents are convinced he HAS to have a college degree. This student you don't want in your study group. Trust me.
2) The student who screwed up in HS and is trying to make amends in a CC. This student is a 50/50. Half the time he'll figure it out in a CC and the other half he'll flop again
3) The student who doesn't exactly come from a rich family and is cutting costs. This is the guy you want in your study group because often, he's got a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove something to get into a good 4-year school.

Sure type 1s occur in 4-year schools, but they don't last. They drag on for years at a CC because they can. Type 2 students don't exist because with bad grades from HS, you simply cannot get into a 4-year school.

Whether you like it or not, no matter what your major is, you'll have study groups and group projects. Choose your teammates carefully.

Those are some great tips WPR. Your educational system works a lot differently than ours, but I'm going to college next year aswell.

I'm afraid I'll have to step it up though, I haven't been doing a thing so far. I see the importance of my education, but it's so damn hard to get myself to work. I'm getting through just fine now, but I'm afraid I'll have a harder time next year.

Had i gone to college right after high school, it would have been a waste. I didn't apply myself, "coasted" through it. Even with that, i finished in the top third of my class. I wonder what i could have done had i really worked at it.
I went to college at age 32, and had over a 3.0 average. And i really enjoyed it, and had fun learning. I had a psychology professor that was a REAL nut case! He made the class so interesting, that i went back and took "abnormal psychology" with him. He was strange, and funny! He had this wierd habit of "tugging" at his left pants leg while he talked. Literally, EVERY pair of pants he wore had that spot wore out! His pants would have some fancy print on them, but that ONE spot, worn out! He was great! If every teacher was like him, every kid would want to learn.

Well, I'd actually defend community colleges. I went to 2 and got good education from both.

What David said about getting good education because of class sizes is right on. I actually got to meet just about every Professor at my CCs. Office hours aren't completely booked like 4-year schools, plus the Professors can actually see your eyeballs and you can ask questions.

I'm not a fan of 80+ people rooms. You don't learn as much, and they're too impersonal.

CCs are very cheap too. I used to rent a room (my parents were in another state) and the tuition at the time was a joke (it's gone up significantly since then, but is still cheaper than a 4-year school).

The thing is, you may want to consider doing your GE at a CC. You may switch your major once or twice. I did. I'm glad I went to a CC first because I thought I'd want to be Psychology until I realized that pretty much everyone in that department was whacked so I changed it. Twice.

Do that at a 4-year school and you'll be wasting money.

Also, make sure your Jukie credits transfer to your 4 year school. That's a common mistake made by young people. And don't just take your guidance counselor's advice about your curriculum, know yourself what you're taking.

The biggest thing with college is to not be intimidated by your professors. A lot of them have a pompous nature to them. Just remember one thing - if they were as great as they think they are, why are they teaching and not doing?

And people wondered why I watched Beverly Hills 90210 in college. The above picture explains why.

In our dorm, we had a big screen TV downstairs and all the girls went in their jammies to watch 90210.

Thanks real good answers guys. Appreciate it. I'm going to be a lawyer btw

I don't mean to sound flip here, but I wouldn't make that decision already. Go to college and use the experience to learn how to think and to figure out what you want to do with your life. If you think you want to be a lawyer, I'd suggest talking to some and going to visit some firms to find out what it's like. I think you'll be in for a shock (and I say this as a lawyer in his 6th year of practice - if I could do it over again, practising law would be the last thing I'd ever do).
