Zero actually i see what your saying about Mike but i figured he would be gone before Ted Thompson (HC's go before a gm) But so what if its same year? They wanted it done the opening game to try and shut him out you can't be that blind 😛 Retiring a number in OCT is totally different.

Specially retiring a guys number when most people knew he was going to come back.

I think a lot of it was to get it out of the way so to speak because of all the media hype that circled the retirement. I know you're not remembering how much of a distraction the whole Brett will he or won't he saga, not to mention the Greta interview. You seem to forget there was a football team that needed to focus on the season, not Brett Favre.

Reggie White's number was retired quickly because he died.

I'm sticking to the common logic that the Packers chose game one because it was against a rival, national TV and it got the distraction out of the way right away. Plus, they retired Whites jersey pretty quick too.

We retired his "jersey" in '99, because the NFL frowns on retiring numbers. After Reggie died, they softened their stance and the Packers retired Reggie's number.

well last time i checked the season dont start in Oct. so how can you say they werent rushing to retire bretts number to try and keep him from playing. They wanted to retire Brett's number opening night. Now it won't be retired till the Ted Thompson administration is gone.
