GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Two straight injury-filled seasons ultimately spelled the end for cornerback Jaire Alexander with the Packers, even if it took a while to reach that point.

The Packers informed Alexander on Monday that he would be released, a source told ESPN, ending an offseason saga in which the two sides tried to find a middle ground.

It came one day before Alexander had planned to report for the team's mandatory minicamp after skipping all of the in-person, voluntary workouts this offseason.

Alexander appeared in just seven regular-season games each of the past two seasons and did not play after Nov. 17 last year -- despite practicing on a semi-regular basis. He went on injured reserve the final week of the season and had knee surgery on what he said was a torn PCL. Still, he finished second on the team in pass breakups (seven) and tied for second in interceptions (two).

Jokes on me. I really thought he'd play for Packers this season.

Kind of crazy how he practiced so much 2nd half of season, but didn't hit the field. It's hard to depend on a guy like that.

Thought he would be here one more season. Im more worried about who his replacement is more so than losing him in general..

I will say this, our front office has always been cheap as hell.

Gutekunst just released his first ever first round draft pick.

That's a lot of money to spend on a guy who isn't on the field much.

Ted Thompson got known as being cheap, but he spent plenty of money, just it was re-signing his own instead of outsiders.

As for as Alexander, he's been earning too dollars and has only played about 50% of the games over the last 4 years.

And if I remember correctly, Zero2cool posted some interesting stats at one point, of hose the Packers defense actually statistics played better without Alexander than with Alexander in 2024.

I don't feel like looking it up at the moment, but I read an article the other day where I was pretty shocked with Nixon's stats while playing outside CB last year ... maybe it was a biased article, I didn't focus on it too much, but he has CB1 stats which surprised me.

And Hafley sure does seem to like guys with nickel/slot experience. I'm not sure why, but he seems to think that's helpful to some degree.

Also.

Sources: The #Packers and #Bills held trade talks this offseason centered around CB Jaire Alexander, but talks ultimately fell through and Buffalo moved on.

It’s unclear if the Bills will revisit things now that Alexander has been released — especially since they spent a first-round pick on Maxwell Hairston — but they were a team that had shown real interest.

Welp, I am not surprised, and not that disappointed.

We are a better team with him playing, but we are not a better team paying him to not play.

We need to help at the position as we are thin.
Go Packers!!!!

I think with our draft that many thought that there was a great chance JA would be back this season.

If injuries hit this CB group we are in a lot of trouble. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of FA talent that isn't past their prime.

Maybe we find a hidden gem with our late pick and UDFAs.

But Packers have normally only kept 5 CBs under Gute, the top 3 are clearly (in no order) Nixon, Hobbs, and Valentine.

Lots of youngster competing for those last two true CB spots. And who knows, they might even sign another vet still, CBs Rasul Douglas and Asante Samuel Jr. are still FAs and have connections to the Packers coaches.

I also thought the Packers would be willing to give him more money than he would get on the open market.
It's disappointing because I hate to see top draft picks fail. It happens to every team but I hate to see it happen in GB.
