I completely disagree, LT Walker is clearly better than C Myers, and you complain about Walkers lack of run blocking all the time, and Myers is even worse.

Meh, my eyes tell me otherwise

Tom is IMO one of the top 3 RTs in the NFL last year.

He isn't even the best in our division, so its unlikely he is top 3. He's fine, but needs to get better.

According to PFF, the NFC North has 4 of the top 5 RTs in overall in offense grade. And Tom is pretty much top 3 in all categories.

I am not sure whether to put this here, or in the Gutey thread, but from listening to the Gutey press conference:

- Myers will likely be back. The ding in the last game may help in negotiations. It sounded to me like he was playing through things we don't know about. Fine by me. Alas, an unhappy Beast.

- OL additionally they are REALLY counting on Morgan, which is sort of risky IMO, I think a veteran FA would be appropriate here.

- Jaire is gone as is Stokes and Corner is a likely area for Free Agency signing

- Receiving answer was hard for me to read, but if we could get a relatively young guy, I think they would pull
the trigger on one as Watson will be back (no earlier than) week 12. And Doubs really needs to retire.

- He alluded to the coaching change and thinks he has the guys (perhaps a little Jerry Jones mentality, 'since I drafted these guys, I know its not the players')

Also my biggest issue with Myers is that we picked him before the much more hyped C Creed Humphrey whom has been an All Pro since Day 1 as a rookie.

I don't really have an issue with Myers, other than he just hasn't been that good. Of the 40 players that have at least 300 snaps at Center, PFF grades Myers out as #38 of 40. Where he is 39th out of 40 in run blocking but at least 24th of 40 in pass blocking.

Based on how contracts work, with players being over paid with the assumption that people will then later pass them when their new contracts come up.

If you want to make Myers a top 10 paid Center at around $7 million per year because you trust him mentally, then sure, okay. But if you want to make him a top 5 paid Center at $10 to $12 million, then that seems like too much and I'd be looking at other options.

One thing in favor of Myers right now, is that there aren't many other good options right now in FA nor the draft.

Though the Draft does have some nice options at Center, but it's bottom heavy, there aren't great options at the top, so they'd most likely start as backups.

One item that surprised me: I can't remember if it was Gute or LaFleur, but they talked about potential OL position movement (Okay)... BUT then started talking praising Tom (okay, so are you thinking moving him to Center?) Then started talking about how he's really secured himself as an OT...

So either the back to back to back OL comments aren't related or they're considering moving Tom to LT.

If that's the case, I would assume means they know they're going to re-sign Tom, but aren't as sure if they're going to re-sign Walker.

Also back when they switched Lang and Sitton, they talked about liking to make sure they can run to the left, and making the defense slide to the left, as it opens up the QB rolling out to the right. And having Tom and Jenkins next to each other, in theory, should really open up the run game to the left.

My guess is they ask Jaire to take a pay cut since I think he's played less than 55% of the games over the last 4 years.

But yes, the coaches that we finished the year with have corrections to the Raiders, Chargers and Jets and those teams have a number of CBs that are FAs. Also I've wondered what are the possibilities of re-signed CB Douglas, as Haley's scheme might fit Douglas very well. Of course, Douglas might want a no trade clause added to it.

I think it's simply that Gute often goes for the guys with the most physical potential... and expects Coaches to be able to develop that physical potential... but the best physical potential doesn't nessarily mean the best football player.

Which is one thing I'll always love about Ted Thompson, and surely he had faults too, but late into the draft, Thompson would often find true football players, where even if they only were on the Packers for a year, a decade later, you would still see that their on some teams bubble with a. 50-50 shot to make their roster even a decade after they were drafted.

Guys like Marshall Newhouse, whom only played four year for the Packers but lasted more than a decade in the NFL.

Clark Harris less than a year with the Packers, but more than a decade in the NFL.

Lawrence Guy, less than two years with the Packers, but more than a decade in the NFL.

Thompson was great at finding football guys, where Gute is best at finding potential and hoping the coaches can develop that potential into football guys.

Though Thompson did need to do a better job of finding speed.

Also, I will say, Van Ness really should of improved in the 4-3, but he instead regressed, I'm not sure whom is to blame for that, but clearly the DE coach is getting blamed and I was surprised we kept him over Jerry Montgomery anyways.

Jonah Monheim is one guys I've had my eye on, as he's started at LT, C and RT. https://thedraftnetwork.com/2024/09/18/jonah-monheim-scouting-report-nfl-draft Seems like our kind of guy, versatile with short arms and limited drive block effectiveness The only think working against him is he likely has a high Wonderlic.

5. Tom praise/options.. I would assume means they know they're going to re-sign Tom, but aren't as sure if they're going to re-sign Walker. Jenkins was the best OL, then Tom, then everyone else. I happen to like Myers, you don't. I think they are counting on Morgan, and I think he is an LT, with better feet than Walker, so Morgan may be right guard or right tackle with Tom at center despite the Gutey gush on him at tackle

6. Ask Jaire to take a pay cut since I think he's played less than 55% of the games over the last 4 years. I don't think they would and I don't think he would take it. Someone will take a chance and he will take an incentive laden contract with a big market team.

7. CB FA's from Raiders Jets et al and Douglas. Didn't Douglas have a run-in with Love? And isn't that why he is gone? CB from Raiders or Jets (other than Sauce, works for me. I would think Saleh has some insight for MLF and Gutey on the Jet corner

8. Adams trolling...Higgins Cinn. Yea, I don't see it happening, although I think he would be a good fit...to much $$$ likely IMO.
I think this would be an attractive place for him as he would be the clear #1. To be frank, I'd rather spend the money on Adams than Higgins

If you're going to keep harping on this Wonderlic, then you need us to provide us with the secret scores of the Packers players.

Like what is the scores of our OL if you say saying all of them are low scores. Since you know the secret scores.

Tom was clearly the best OL and it wasn't close. The rest of the OL run blocking could use some work.

6. Ask Jaire to take a pay cut since I think he's played less than 55% of the games over the last 4 years. I don't think they would and I don't think he would take it. Someone will take a chance and he will take an incentive laden contract with a big market team.

Did you think they would ask David Bakhtiari or Aaron Jones?

Alexander would be making more than them and he's been playing less than 55% of the games over the last four years. And like Bakhtiari's, Alexander knee might not being healing any time soon.

I don't think Gute is going to bring Alexander back at his current price of $17.5 million.

I don't see Alexander taking the pay cut either. But it'll be interesting when the Packers try to push the issue, such as before Free Agency? Before the Draft? Before Training Camp? Or wait until training camp and see how he is.

7. CB FA's from Raiders Jets et al and Douglas. Didn't Douglas have a run-in with Love? And isn't that why he is gone?

😳 no, I have never heard Love nor Douglass have a negative reaction with anyone, much less each other.

And sounded like Love and Douglas were hanging out and thought the Packers were not far from turning the corner.

Gute traded Douglas as we were rebuilding mode at the time, and we had not yet turned it around.

Plus Gute seems to try to move vets out of the way, when he thinks someone younger can step up, so I think Gute moved Douglas to Stokes could step up, but that obviously hasn't happened the way he hoped.

But that was the same reason he ran Nelson off, so Adams could step up.

CB from Raiders or Jets (other than Sauce, works for me. I would think Saleh has some insight for MLF and Gutey on the Jet corner

I think the potential issue with the Jets CB is that he's 5'9" and Gute doesn't seem to like small, even if he has played well.
