Chargers land young Packers receiver in last-second trade proposal
Patrick McAvoy
08-27-2024

The Green Bay Packers will make a flurry of moves over the next few hours.

Green Bay is working hard to cut down its roster to 53 players and that means that there will be plenty of cuts over the next few hours as well as possibly even a trade or two.

One position that the Packers seem to have a surplus in is wide receiver. The Packers likely will have to trim down the receiver room and Bleacher Report's Alex Kay linked young receiver Bo Melton to the Los Angeles Chargers in a possible last-second trade.

"Chargers Receive: WR Bo Melton," Kay said. "Packers Receive: 2025 seventh-round pick. The Los Angeles Chargers have arguably the weakest receiver room in the NFL right now, making it a sensible option to negotiate a trade with a team that boasts perhaps the league's deepest group of pass-catchers.

"The Green Bay Packers have a loaded receiving corps, one that has talent well beyond their top four returning weapons from last year. The team will have a tough time figuring out who to keep on the roster from a group that includes Grant DuBose, Malik Heath, Bo Melton, and Samori Toure.

Green Bay already has cut Toure, but more moves likely are on the way. Melton appeared in just five games last year but made one start. He had 16 receptions for 218 yards and one touchdown in the small sample size.

He is just 25 years old and has shown some promise, but he may not have much of a role with the Packers in 2024

Its nice that we got something....kind of like swapping Willis for Melton

Wonder if this means that DuBose, Anthony Johnson Jr or Kalen King are back on the 53?

I was hoping they would find a trade partner for a WR. My hope was for Toure, but I guess most knew that he was going to be cut.

I'm not sure this is true... or if it is, then Packers.com doesn't know about it, as WR Melton made the 54 man roster.

Looks like this is a media writers, BS fan fiction of possible trades that might happen.

Is that the same "reporter" who said we were trading for ceedee lamb?

Looking at the article, it looks like one of hypothetical trades that leads to other news sites reporting on potential trades that are a pestilence in the offseason.

I'm skeptical they'd trade Melton since he seems to be on the guys they're counting on to stretch the field in case Watsons hamstring acts up.

Like it's an actual trade... why are they as writers, making it so specific fan fiction?

They could simple write there are a number of guys out there, and just name three WRs and what they might cost in trade value, not write it as if it's actually happening with one specific guy.

It's just the new form of click bait...

dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
