So... in the 4-3, how would you line them up?

First off, which one is the Middle LB?

I think your MLB, especially in a 4-3 is generally the "green dot" guy and Walker Hooper and Cooper are not green dot guys.

My reticence for excitement about these guys as MLBs is that the position generally requires reading, processing, and reacting. It doesn't matter what your 40 time or quick muscle twitch speed is if your grey matter processor is slow.

If they are blitzing, yes their speed is wonderful. But if they have to figure out which guy to cover, or which zone to cover after shifts and motion, and defensive audibles, there is a great likelihood of error and late assignment execution.

Perhaps a safety can wear the green dot.

I wonder if Quay Walker gets it? But I'm not sure if he's a MLB in the new scheme.

As for the new subject line, the MLB wears the green dot, but who's the MLB?

I'm guessing Walker or Cooper. But that's a random guess. Walker is listed as 10 lbs heavier than the others.

Seeing as Nickel is played most and we'll have two LB's -- my guess is whichever will be on the field in Dime defense as well. That way it's one voice throughout any formation.

Matt LaFleur says Quay Walker "more than likely" will wear the green dot helmet as the defense's primary communicator. He says it's early, but that's the way it's trending.

beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
