In the annals of Tennessee Titans history, former left tackle Andre Dillard will go down as one of the very worst free-agent signings the franchise has ever made.Dillard was signed to a three-year, $29 million deal last offseason to be the left tackle, but things went as badly as one could imagine. …

further, I hope this is a pre-draft head fake, falsely signaling a diminished desire to draft a top rated tackle

With regards to the draft, I think this just means if they miss on a day 3 OT project they'll still have someone to work on.

Though I'd add, the amount doesn't matter until he makes the roster, as long as it is not guaranteed... though knowing the Packers, they probably have some work out bonus in there.

Dillard is at LT, some of these look like unforced errors, that the DL has to do very little, it more more Dillard screwing up.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!!! Oh my....this is really awful..

As Dillard illustrates, I content that RAS is overrated. "Ready, set, go, the do a pre-assigned task" is not football. Ready-set-react then do something predicated on what has happened is a much better measure. The body cannot quickly when the brain reacts slowly.

Mark Murphy and Russ Ball need to take Gute to the Oval Office gentleman's club on main street in Green Bay for an intervention. Gute has very obviously blown a gasket, and he needs to be handed a suitcase of ones in order to evaluate the talent there for awhile. If he runs low, Mark can send Russ out to the bank to replenish the supply while continuing to try to talk some sense into the man.
I'm not an accountant, but I beleive the Packers could defend the expenditure as a tax deductable business expense with the IRS, though procuring a receipt in such an establishment could prove to be a bit awkward.

I was kind of hopeful they were thinking of him at guard, but his run blocking is apparently "piss poor" (to tie in a Zero2Cool thread). The following was from a Titan analyst at his signing with Tennessee...so the Pass Blocking and Technique strengths are no longer valid.

Strengths:

  • Athleticism: Dillard is a very athletic offensive tackle who moves well for his size. He has quick feet and can mirror defenders in pass protection.
  • Pass blocking: Dillard is a strong pass blocker who uses his quick feet and athleticism to protect the quarterback's blindside. He has good hand placement and can anchor against bull rushes from defenders.
  • Technique: Dillard has good technique and is fundamentally sound in his pass sets. He has quick hands and can punch defenders to disrupt their timing.

  • Weaknesses:
  • Run blocking: While Dillard is a strong pass blocker, he has struggled with run blocking in the NFL. He can struggle to generate movement at the point of attack and can get pushed back by stronger defenders.
  • Strength: Dillard has good athleticism and technique, but he can struggle with strength and power. He needs to get stronger in order to hold up against the stronger defenders in the NFL.
  • [*]Injuries: Dillard has been plagued by injuries during his time in the NFL, which has limited his playing time and development. He needs to stay healthy in order to reach his full potential.

In short...this signing is a real head scratcher.

I think folks are really over reacting to this signing. It's one of 90, not one of 53 on a 3 year guaranteed contract.

This is nothing more than a body. It's something the Packers have done routinely.

Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (30-Jan) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
beast (30-Jan) : I wonder what's taking so long with hiring a DL coach, 2 of the 3 known to interview have already been hired elsewhere.

buckeyepackfan (26-Jan) : I forgot, they corrected the call a week later. Lol btw HAPPY BIRTHDAY dhazer!
buckeyepackfan (26-Jan) : That brings up the question, why wasn't Nixon down by contact? I think that was the point Kanata was making.
buckeyepackfan (26-Jan) : Turnovers rule, win the turnover battle, win the game.
packerfanoutwest (26-Jan) : well, he was
TheKanataThrilla (26-Jan) : Eagles down by contact on the fumble....fuck you NFL
Mucky Tundra (26-Jan) : I think this games over
beast (26-Jan) : Eagles sure get a lot of fumbles on kickoffs
Mucky Tundra (26-Jan) : This game looks too big for Washington
packerfanoutwest (26-Jan) : that being said, The Ravens are the Browns
packerfanoutwest (26-Jan) : Browns, Dolphins have longest AFC Championship droughts
packerfanoutwest (26-Jan) : As of today, Cowboys have longest NFC Championship drought,
beast (26-Jan) : Someone pointed out, with Raiders hiring Carroll, the division games between Carroll and Jim Harbaugh are back on (who can whine more games)
beast (26-Jan) : I'm confused, Pete Carroll and Brian Schottenheimer? When Todd Monken, Joe Brady, Kellen Moore, Kliff Kingsbury and Zac Robinson are availab
Zero2Cool (25-Jan) : Any reason I'm catching a shot here about my intelligence?
Martha Careful (25-Jan) : thank you Mucky for sticking up for me
Martha Careful (25-Jan) : some of those people are smarter than you zero. However Pete Carroll is not
    Mucky Tundra (24-Jan) : Rude!
    beast (24-Jan) : Martha? 😋
Zero2Cool (24-Jan) : Raiders hired someone from the elderly home.
dfosterf (24-Jan) : I'm going with a combination of the two.
beast (24-Jan) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
