I want to upgrade the linemen this off-season as I think there are holes there that fans aren't noticing.
Historical DL Calais Campbell would always be on my list for this kind of thing, but I think the time has passed. He would play DE, and Packers are pretty good there.
I badly wanted OL Connor Williams, until I read his agent talk a bit about his injury. It sounds like it's not the normal ACL, but a significantly worse one. Like I wouldn't be surprised if he missed most or all of 2024.
G Dalton Risner has a good reputation but this would be two teams in two seasons letting him walk out that door on fairly low contracts. In 2023, he was good in pass protection but struggled in run blocking.
So I guess I'll have to go non-linemen and get the linemen in the draft.
I think I'm going to have to go with short term deals (2 or 3 years) for
- S Justin Simmons
- CB Stephon Gilmore
Maybe Gilmore first, he's becoming more inconsistent, but he can still be elite at times, and can trust him one on one, and long arms to press, I think we're going to be running cover 3, and Gilmore can be a more athletic Richard Sherman at this point of his career.
Simmons concerns me a bit because his PFF grades has dropped every season for the last 5 seasons, but he's also been a complete player at FS. Maybe moving him to SS will lighten his load a bit and make him look even better.
