This assumption that Bach is getting paid for not playing and should give The Packers a hometown deal is ridiculous.

He should take a pay cut because (in my opinion) NO ONE, not the Packers, not one of the 31 other NFL teams, or any other football teams across the entire world is going to pay him his current 2024 salary.

He can take a 25% to 50% to stay with the Packers... or a 35% to 70% pay cut gambling on being a free agent and getting to pick his next City.

Not a hometown discount if Packers are offering more than anyone else in the world, and they will offer more, because they're basically on the hook already and can't pay him $0 like the rest of the world can.

Work together, it can be a win/win (assuming he can get and stay healthy), don't work together, and it can be a lose/lose based on the situation they're in and that contract.

But sides are stuck and assuming he can get and stay healthy, both sides would be smart to work together as that contract locks them together.

Dead cap space is a sunk cost and you should never make future decisions based on sunk cost, unless it's just to say you don't trust someone or something.

So that would be only $1.3 million in new money, which my guess is never going to happen.

I think the new money would be at least $8.6 million

According to independent cap analyst Ken Ingalls, Bakhtiari could also have the option to file an injury grievance. For this to happen, the player would have to allege that there was some type of wrong doing throughout the recovery process — be it a surgery mistake or inappropriate rehabilitation process, for example.

If he files a grievance, 40% of the value of the process (usually the player's salary) would immediately hit the Packers cap. And that's $8.6 million in 2024.

This assumption that Bach is getting paid for not playing and should give The Packers a hometown deal is ridiculous.
He signed a 4 year 92mil extension, in good faith, with The Packers. Sucks that he was injured, but that shit happens.
Bach original injury is not the problem, he came back from that in a year.
The reoccurring problem was with fluid in his knee.
Now after 4 or is it 5 surgeries they are hoping they finally got it figured out.

The Packers put themselves in the current cap problem by pushing the money into the future.
The future is now.

At a minimum, the Packers are on the hook for a $19.07 million cap charge if Bakhtiari is released, simply due to the salary conversion accounting. On top of that is the $21.4 million he's set to earn in 2024.

Nobody is going to trade for Bach until it is proven his knee is healthy.
The question is do The Packers want to go into next year with the 40mil cap hit or do they release him and carry the 19.07mil dead cap?
Bach is still one of the best LT's in the game.
Is it worth the extra 21.4mil to find out?
They can also sign him to a 4 year extension, convert the 40mil into a signing bonus, spread that money out over the next 5 years backload his Base salary to years 3,4,and 5, with a player and/or Team out after year 2.

Don't confuse Contract money with Salary Cap hit.

The Packers have a tough decision to make.
I still think they should go into next year with Bach on the roster.

He has gone quiet about all of it since.
PRIOR to this surgery is when he said he would be ready to go by training camp.

If we cut him now, I see no scenario where he doesn't get that 1.3 million injury settlement for a vested veteran. That is new cash and would be in addition to the the 19.07 million dead cap.

He is also entitled to a roster bonus of 9.5 million or 10.2 million, dependent upon who you ask. Sad how you can find accurate parts of one article that have inaccurate parts in the same article. The 9.5 people say it is due on or about March 15th. The 10.2 guy says it's a weekly bonus, payable in 600k increments. Guess we find out on or about March 15.
What is bugging me most about all this is the very strong probability that if he is cut, he will file an injury grievance, and that automatically requires the club to place 40% of the potential award in escrow and tacks that onto the 19.07, and the 1.3 cash and cap. What is bothering me most is that he is very likely to win in arbitration by not having to do anything this year as a player. That would be all of that 21.4 million yet paid. Might take him a year to get it, but meanwhile, we are carrying that 40% of it in additional cap hit as opposed to the 19.07.
We cut him, his agent will come out and tell the world he has a fiduciary responsibility to protect his clients interests. My speculation.

Why wouldn't he get it if he files is the question everyone should be asking.
He will be lawyered up, ya know.

Sit on your ass and get 21.4 million.
That is in addition to the 126.875 million we have paid him so far in his career, so forgive me for not apologizing for being harsh, here.
