I wonder if the Packers consider extending Bakhtiari? Maybe Jordan Love and the way the team is playing changes the LT position.

I'm not sure about the salary cap ramifcations.

I think the Packers ask Bakhtiari to take a pay cut since they've been sticking with him so long without him being on the field as much, just like they asked Aaron Jones to take a pay cut and I think both sides agree. And in exchange, Bakhtiari turns some of it into guaranteed money so that the Packers have absolutely no reason to release him.

The interesting question becomes what if Bakhtiari says no...

In theory, Packers can release him and save a lot of money, but I've also read that Bakhtiari can claim he was injured while playing and get a good chuck of it under some rule.

Yes they should absolutely extend him, but it cannot be at his current pay. He’s been a top paid LT the last 3-4 years and has missed 2 entire seasons during that span. I would certainly hope he will be willing to take a pay cut to stick around.

However the Jets will probably throw some money his way.

At the current price, no way

Availability is the key ability and although he was great, I am not willing to invest in him at this price.

If this year has taught us anything, it is that letting go of the past can pay dividends.

If the script writers are doing a 2008 reboot. Then David Bakhtiari fills the Chad Clifton role and gets a ring in season three.

I would be pleased if Bak takes a pay cut and restructure. It doesn't seem like something he would do but I can hope he would. I don't want to extend him. He's getting to the end of his career. Adding years to the contract doesn't seem like a good idea.

Yeah taking a pay cut doesn't seem like something he would do, but neither does being happy about taking money instead of earning it.

If they released Bakhtiari, they would save money and he would earn less. So I think a 25% to 50% pay cut could potentially be agreed on.

Of course, he could also tell them to get lost.

This assumption that Bach is getting paid for not playing and should give The Packers a hometown deal is ridiculous.
He signed a 4 year 92mil extension, in good faith, with The Packers. Sucks that he was injured, but that shit happens.
Bach original injury is not the problem, he came back from that in a year.
The reoccurring problem was with fluid in his knee.
Now after 4 or is it 5 surgeries they are hoping they finally got it figured out.

The Packers put themselves in the current cap problem by pushing the money into the future.
The future is now.

At a minimum, the Packers are on the hook for a $19.07 million cap charge if Bakhtiari is released, simply due to the salary conversion accounting. On top of that is the $21.4 million he's set to earn in 2024.

Nobody is going to trade for Bach until it is proven his knee is healthy.
The question is do The Packers want to go into next year with the 40mil cap hit or do they release him and carry the 19.07mil dead cap?
Bach is still one of the best LT's in the game.
Is it worth the extra 21.4mil to find out?
They can also sign him to a 4 year extension, convert the 40mil into a signing bonus, spread that money out over the next 5 years backload his Base salary to years 3,4,and 5, with a player and/or Team out after year 2.

Don't confuse Contract money with Salary Cap hit.

The Packers have a tough decision to make.
I still think they should go into next year with Bach on the roster.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'

Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
