One thing I noted in here was the comment McCarthy made about Kampman. Out of the 37 sacks over the last three years 33.5 of them came out of sub defenses and only 3.5 out of the base defense.

Just think what he could have done if Sanders knew something OTHER than a base defense and if ANYBODY on the other side could have gotten any kind of rush.

Another double digit sack year for Kampman coming up thank you very much.

I agree, Sanders kind of sucked. I remember our first game against the Bears (download it folks an watch it!) from the '08 season we played I believe primarily a Nickel defense and it worked great.

Whats it mean by sub defense? and base?

also I dont remember what team but is it pittsburg that has 2 good lbers that pretty much split the sack numbers? - hoping our team can pull something like that off where the offense doesnt know where the pressure is coming from.

I personally think pressure is going to be coming from all over, although it's safe to assume that most of it will be from our OLB spots. Still, expect Bigby blitzing more than last year, Collins, a corner, an ILB. Who knows. It's gonna be interesting. 🙂

The base defensive package for us is the four/three. Four down linemen, three LB's, two CB's, Two safeties. What MM is saying is that when we ran no variation off of this and ran it straight as they were lined up at the snap Kampman got 3.5 sacks.
When there was a variation or "sub" package they may have a blitz on, a stunt, a stack, or, possibly lined up in another way like the nickle or dime. We sometimes bring a CB or Safety blitz out of those formations.
In those cases where we varied the package in some way Kampman got 90% of his sacks.
The point many here see is that in the 3-4 it's all about the many sub packages that come out of it. There is a base to it but very seldom is there not some variation that happens at the snap of the ball and thats when Kampman obviously does the most damage.

Martha Careful (19h) : Yes, in the military S2’s work on IPB, PERCEC, PHYSEC and IO
dfosterf (4-May) : FYI civilian companies swipe the S2 designation from the military. S2 is the intelligence branch up to brigade level. G2 is division level.
dfosterf (4-May) : Google it. Make sure to tack NFL on it or you will get the military meaning
Zero2Cool (4-May) : S2?
beast (4-May) : Seems like the S2 has a love/hate relationship with professional scouts.
beast (4-May) : In theory, the S2 test how quickly a QBs brain can solve game like issues and how quickly they can do it.
dfosterf (4-May) : Are you gentlemen and at least one lady familiar with the S2 cognition
Zero2Cool (4-May) : Maybe there isn't an issue.

Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : Jax Ulbrich, Jeff Ulbrich’s son, released an apology for his role in the Shedeur Sanders prank call.
Martha Careful (27-Apr) : apparently he did not participate in practice or play on the east west shrine game nor the NFL combine. The kid was a mediocre spoiled brat
