Saddled with a four-game losing streak, the Green Bay Packers got rid of one of their best players when they traded cornerback Rasul Douglas to the Buffalo Bills at the trade deadline.

What the hell are we doing? Get rid of one the very few guys who knows what to do on the field. One of the leaders on the team. One of the very few veterans we actually have.

Gute must be trying to get fired. And to give up a 5th too?? For a 3rd rounder???

I’m at a loss for words.

Completely baffling move. He's the one of the few guys on this team that's playing well and is a taking a leadership role on this team. Even if he's gonna be gone by the this team will probably be competitive (2025), you need him for his week to week presence in the film room, practices etc.

From a transactional analysis, it's not half bad. Taking a guy you got off of another teams practice squad and flipping him with Day 3 change for a 3rd rounder isn't too bad.

Best of luck to you Sul.

One thought that just came to mind is that Gute likes opening spots up for players to grow into them, like one rumor why Gute released Nelson and didn't want him back, even though Nelson was willing to re-sign for pretty cheap is that Gute wanted Rodgers and Adams to develop more chemistry and Adams to become the #1.

With Alexander and Douglas, the Packers sort of had a back log that stopped Stokes and Valentine from getting on the field more.

I'm absolutely not saying that's why the move was made, but simply that it could of been a factor.

I think Gute might be feeling a hot seat and needing to show his players can play and also the team needs to make a decision about weather or not to pick up Stokes 5th year option, which as of right now I'd suggest hell no.

But if Stokes can get healthy and actually show something, then he might be able to change some minds.

But now that Gary has been resigned, whom is the next big ABSOLUTELY MUST re-sign draft pick by Gute?

Savage?
Love?
Dillon?
Dugara?
Runyan?
Stokes?
Meyers?
Newman?
Slaton?
Walker? .... yeah maybe Walker. Though he has a 5th year option, so that's what 3.5 years away?

Wyatt
Watson
Rhyan
Doubs
Tom... yeah Tom it is for me.

So in 2.5 years Packers must re-sign Tom.

Not great drafting.

I'm NOT saying Rasul Douglas is Charles Woodson, so no one hop on that train. I'm saying that's a black/white example of what veteran leadership can do. Coincidently, I just remembered this. Jaire said Rasul helped him in the film room. So, yeah, now I'm even more upset over something that has zero impact on my life, haha.

I would feel better about this if it was simply for a 3rd and not (likely) swapping a high fifth for a low third. The value on that is basically a late 4th-round pick.

That said, the Packers aren't doing anything in 2023 and if they didn't plan to have him on the team next year it makes some sense. They're much more than a Rasul Douglas away from being competitive at this point.

This frees 9 million in cap space to do something next year, I guess.

So I’m not sure where #143 comes from (that’s mid-5th). However, using pick #143 doesn't produce a third-round value from the site I used. So I'm gonna guess the different sites don't agree on what the picks are worth.

Anyway, the difference I got was 47 points, or equal to pick 125 (4th last in the 4th round). If we average those out the value sits around a mid-fourth.

In any case, it looks like the Packers will have 5 picks in the top 100 and 6 in the top ~110, so that's something to be optimistic for.
