I remember watching Donovan McNabb, vs someone else (maybe Kurt Warner?, I honestly can't remember whom), and someone was sort of trying to race bait a little bit, saying McNabb is every bit as good as any QB in the NFL, but because he hasn't won a Super Bowl, and he's black, he's not getting the credit he deserves.

I remember going into the game, thinking, maybe, I'll watch and see my opinion.... and that was towards the end of his tie with the Eagles and leaving the game, I was thinking, they're both extremely similar, but also no where close for the sole reason of the other QB passes were almost all caught in stride and the receiver was about to keep running, where McNabb at the time (again, I think this was close to the end, he was clearly in a down slope at this point), a ton of catches and on target throws that a receiver could catch, but almost none were catchable in stride.

So yes, McNabb had a ton more throws, a ton more catches, and had to do a lot more work to get the ball down the field, but partly that was his own fault for only throwing the ball on target, and not instead pin point deadeyes, often making the receivers stop for the ball.

And my end result opinion is that media often judge guys (rightfully or wrongly) based on personality, and McNabb was overly trying to keep a certain image, didn't trust the media and pulled back from interacting with them, which probably hurt himself more than helped.

Which during his one year with the Redskins, I believe he also got benched, in part because he refused to use a wrist band with the plays in it, due to image/ego reasons, because the (false) idea that wrist bands are only for those that don't know what they're doing. But supposedly McNabb didn't know the plays well enough, especially the red zone plays where they were trying to speed it up, instead of saying the long play twice, once by the play caller and then the QB, the playcaller could simply say, play #14, and the QB reads it off, savings time.

I'm not too concerned about the completion %. All of the non-RBs he threw to yesterday are 1st and 2nd year players. I expect we'll see the % improve with more practice and game reps. Leading receives seems like something that will improve with more experience and working on timing with the young WRs and TEs as well.

Love looked good, and completed enough passes to put the game out of reach early in the fourth quarter. Looked calm, and didn't make the back-breaking mistakes. He played better than I expected.

I'll try and temper my excitement a bit because it was the Bears and their terrible defense is a big reason why they were the worst team in football last year.

He did miss a few throws.

But it was his first game as a starterā€¦being THE MAN, so, in the grand scheme of things, I thought it was a very good, not great, but very good performance.

We know he didn't have a perfect game.
We know it's only 1 game.
Still he didn't do badly.
There was room for improvement but he did enough to win convincingly.
If Musgrave wouldn't have fallen all over himself twice that would have changed it a little.
If Reed learns to fight for contested balls it would have changed things.
Who was it? Was Heath the one who ran the wrong route? That would have made a difference.

There was only one turnover worthy pass. There were a couple of deep shots where they didn't connect.

For a first start I am pleased.
