QB Aaron Rodgers takes a $33.7 million pay cut

There’s another wrinkle to this. Rodgers told Peter King that the extra cash and cap space will allow the Jets to be competitive when it comes to adding players at the trade deadline. That’s something the Packers routinely pondered in recent years with Rodgers on the team, but never pulled off.

Bakhtiari to the Jets? 🤔

Yes, that's why I'm posting this here. While I think the Packers seriously want Bakhtiari around to protect Love, if the Jets get desperate, I could see them go all out to win in these next two years which matches Bakhtiari's contract perfectly.

What would it cost for you? Instead of getting the Jets 2024 1st OR 2nd depending if Rodgers plays 65% of the snaps with poor OTs. What if the Jets offered 2024 1st AND 2nd if we gave them Bakhtiari and they took his salary off our hands? Though I'm betting the Packers would first ask about a 2025 1st instead.

It's no secret that the Jets weakness is their OTs, even when healthy. And especially now with both of their projected OTs injured and Billy Turner rotating as your starting LT.   They got depth, they lack quality.

Jets injured starting LT is Duane Brown, a decade in the Texans, 5 years on the Seahawks and now the Jets. In 2022, his pass blocking was top 40 but his run blocking was down right awful.

Jets injured RT is 6'7" 340lb Mekhi Becton, (whom the Jets unexplainably drafted over OT Tristan Wirfs in the 2020 1st round). Becton started 13 games his rookie year, and then has blow out his right knee every September since ending his seasons before they get started, and supposedly tweaked it early this year.

Jets also have 2022 4th rounder Max Mitchell, whom I like, but I thought would be moved to OG in the pros. OTs need to be freak athletes or sorta have a mental calm to not over react. Mitchell over reacts and is a decent athlete, but not a freak one.

And Billy Turner, whom I think we all remember his best days. But then got some sort of injury and looked pretty bad last year with the Broncos, though he was still recovering, and some injuries, they don't seem themselves until their 2nd year back.

I will be very surprised if Dalvin Cook isn't a
New York Jet by Monday
That being said, I believe we can afford to lose Bahk to the Jets if the price is right. Their 2nd rounder isn't enough. This opinion is highly subject to how things look going into the regular season

I would assume that if they have an All-Pro at LT, that would increase their chances of winning more games. And more wins means lower draft pick. That being said, if the Jets compensation offer would be tricky.

Packers have the 2024 2nd Round pick from Jets. It gets upgraded to 1st Round if Rodgers plays 65% or more snaps during 2023 season. If I understand that correctly, I would have to say my compensation ties to Rodgers snap count.

Rodgers > 65%
2024 2nd Round
2025 1st Round

Rodgers < 65%
2024 1st Round
2025 2nd Round

In short, I'd want to ensure I have Jets 1st and 2nd round picks for 2024 and 2025 for giving them All-Pro QB and All-Pro LT.  No matter what, they're taking the salary off my hands.

But would the Jets give up two 1st? Maybe... Woody Johnson is 76, and Jets supposedly have the longest playoff drought of any top professional league in North America, having not been to the playoffs since the Packers won their Super Bowl.

Of course, Packers probably aren't going to do this, especially if it leaves 1st year starter Jordan Love out to dry.

Do they trust both Tom and Nijman to both be starters?

Though, Rhyan supposedly showed up in a lot better shape than last year. But still, I think he's getting 4th string OC snaps, not sure about OG, as I haven't heard about OG.

My guess would be that he's getting 3rd string OG snaps behind Jenkins, Runyan, Newman and Hanson, at least to start camp.

Edit: Just read Rhyan was 2nd string LG with Hanson as the 2nd string Center, and Newman 2nd string RG.

Also side note on RB Dalvin Cook... I don't mind him playing the Dolphins and Jets (and some say Patriots) off each other) to get them to pay more... but I'm getting tired of him doing it publicly.

Cook: Odds “pretty high” that I sign with Jets...

No reason to say that publicly, unless you're trying to drive up the price from others. Trying to get his home town Dolphins to pay more? Or just waiting for the Aaron Rodgers pay cut money to sign?

2 firsts for one of the best LT in the league. I don't give a trip what his salary or injury history is.
Pay up or tell your story walking.

edit- Yosh was above average in pass protecion when we was LT. That gives me some hope he could hold up. If not 2024 slide Jenkins out and move someone into LG.

“Nijman is far from a household name, but he’s played left tackle (782 snaps) and right tackle (528) since 2020 at an above-average level. Those guys get paid, and paid big,” DeChant wrote. “He’s been best on the left, allowing three sacks and a 2.94 percent pressure rate, compared to five [sacks] and 4.36 [percent rate], respectively, on the right. A restricted free agent this offseason, Nijman received the second-round tender (worth $4.3 million) from the Packers. He could push for $17 million or more annually on his next deal.”

Back to AA Ron- Years and years ago I thought I heard him say (Somewhere between his 2nd and 3rd contracts) he wouldn't mind taking a pay cut in order to help with the salary cap situation. It would allow the team to acquire addiotnal talented players. ALAS, the NFLPA won't let him. It would set a bad situation for the middle level players. Teams would tell them if Rodgers is willing to give up millions of dollars to help the team they should be willing to give up a couple of million as well. He had to keep all that money for the sake of his teammates. It sounded kind of phoney to me. Other high paid players were dipping into the wallets for the sake of the team.

The only number I'm concerned about with Rodgers now is the 65% of QB snaps taken for the NY Jets. If taking a pay cut helps then so be it.

I will love it after he plays his 65% of the snaps and his team is in the bottom of their division and have to give the Packers a top 10 pick.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Zero2Cool (16h) : Merry Christmas!
beast (25-Dec) : Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
beast (24-Dec) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (24-Dec) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
