Stating the obvious, a healthy David Bakhtiari would do wonders for the Green Bay Packers offense and first-year starting quarterback Jordan Love this season. Unfortunately, turf fields have been an obstacle for the left tackle’s surgically-repaired knee, and the Packers play five of their nine …

Here are the five games and the type of turf:
Week 2 at Atlanta Falcons: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, FieldTurf CORE
Week 12 at Detroit Lions: Ford Field, FieldTurf CORE
Week 14 at New York Giants: MetLife Stadium, FieldTurf CORE
Week 16 at Carolina Panthers: Bank of America Stadium, FieldTurf
Week 17 at Minnesota Vikings: U.S. Bank Stadium, UBU Speed Series S5-M

If this is the case, Bak ain't going to play for the Jets.

I listed off the games where Packers play on turf and said to expect David to take a "rest" that week. It was scoffed at because he's a "professional".

I still would not be surprised. It gives the All-Pro LT rest AND allows Packers a glimpse at potential replacement LT for 2024 if it should come to that.

Keep in mind, I do not think the Packers are 2023 Super Bowl contenders at all. I'm sure the team has those aspirations, but I just don't think the talent is there. And I feel Super Bowl is unrealistic with first year starting QB.

I see a plethora of Veterans Rest designations for Bach.

Yes, he missed some time in the Lions game, but was that because he struggles against all field turf? Also he missed the entire Commanders game after playing the Jets at Lambeau Field (which has grass), but no mention of that (as it doesn't fit the story narrative).

Also Lions, Jets and Giants are getting rid of their silt field (which is said to be the worse of them all) for new and improved field turf. (Improved over the silt kind, maybe not other kinds already in place).

The article talked about the NFL field expert guy basically saying nothing and avoiding saying anything is worse than the other (my words)...

An article came out basically suggesting the NFL is simply trying to delay and push the issue as they know they can't get certain owners to change their fields, and that's partly because certain stadiums were designed for certain field types (or at minimum, not having real grass) and don't think they could actually grow real grass or it would be too expensive to do it.

Also note, that some of these same stadium are hosting Fifa (or some soccer games) in which real grass is demanded and forced or you don't get the contract. So the stadiums have promised real grass for the soccer players, but not the Football players.

But yes the old Raiders (baseball A's field) and the Bears field were the worst in terms of not being taken case of (which probably makes them worse than some of the bad designed but well matained fields).

My (very limited, and maybe biasedly wrong) understanding was the Bears Field sucked because the city was in charge of it and they had people doing it that probably had no business being in charge of it.

Like it clearly needed watering, and they failed to water it.

The GrassSoldier Field's grass, managed by the Chicago Park District and ASM Global, has been notorious for its shoddy conditions since the team's move to Kentucky Bluegrass in 1988. It's received countless comments over the years from players, coaches and fans.  In recent history, the grass was left in bare-minimum condition for the team's lone preseason game at Soldier Field back in early August. Pictures of the field flooded Twitter, showing the ugly dry patches on the grass.  Opposing head coach Andy Reid commented on the condition, as did the president of the NFLPA by calling out the NFL for allowing the game to be played amidst the conditions.  Ex-Bears kicker Robbie Gould was also known for chastising the field's condition because it made his job harder to kick footballs.  "This has been the worst the field has been all year," Gould complained to ESPN Radio 1000 back in 2012. "It was very hopeful in the beginning of preseason, but this year for some reason it's been a lot softer than it has in years past." The new stadium in Arlington Heights will likely have synthetic turf or a different management company to uphold the grass conditions.

In 2011, the field's conditions caused the team's family night during training camp to be canceled.  “It’s a joke,” Urlacher said via ESPN Chicago. “I don’t understand how you can’t have the field ready. It sucks for the fans because I’m sure it was a pain in the butt to get down there with all the traffic. I think Coach [Lovie Smith] did the right thing not letting us practice on that stuff. It’s just too bad it had to be that way.” The family night cancelation caused an uproar amongst the players. The team shuttled to Soldier Field in a bus and was forced to turn around upon their arrival due to the conditions. Another example of poor maintenance that leaked into the players' performance schedule.  As a result of the incident, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel got involved. Since the Chicago Park District owns Soldier Field, they are in charge of maintaining the field conditions. Because of this, the Mayor was forced to speak on the matter. “I want the players and the teams that come, and the fans that want to go to Soldier Field to find a facility that is reliable,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel said via the Chicago Tribune in 2011. “That’s what I expect them to do, and I expect the people at the Park District to make the tough choices and the choices that are responsible.” During the 2012 season, a cold, rainy night game at Soldier Field created a huge mess on the field. It made things difficult for all players. Bears kicker Robbie Gould made two field goals from 51 and 24 yards, respectively. But, he missed a 48-yarder in the fourth quarter. The field was already in poor shape before the rain, according to Gould. "This has been the worst the field has been all year," Gould complained to ESPN Radio 1000. "It was very hopeful in the beginning of preseason, but this year for some reason its been a lot softer than it has in years past. "Have the league come in and talk about what it should be like every day as opposed to dropping a pound of clay'test on it at three in the afternoon and its going to be frozen by 7 o'clock when its time to play."  Gould later retracted his statement towards the park district. Still, the point stands.

SOLUTION: Get those young guys ready.. Rasheed Walker. Caleb Jones. I know we can cover the position with other players, but let's save the backups as depth, and not have to be shifting guys around.

#19 Tom
#36 Nijman

And that's with Bakhtiari being rusty as hell at first, 3 of his 5 worse games were his three first games. Another was the Lions game that he got injured in.

Martha Careful (3h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (3h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (4h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21h) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21h) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21h) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : TD but another failed 2 pt conversion!
