What could the defensive coordinator do to get you to jump on the band wagon?

Obviously, Joe Barry’s tenure as the Green Bay Packers ’ defensive coordinator hasn’t panned out as hoped. Green Bay Packers fans were always going to beat a dead horse about former Wisconsin defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard turning down the job, but the fact that Barry’s defenses have underperformed has only thrown fuel on the fire.

Here’s my question: What would it take for Joe Barry to win you back?

What would you need to see out of the defense to feel comfortable with him moving forward, despite the fact that it felt like he was on the verge of being let go before a late-season stretch of games broke in the Packers’ favor last year? I asked that question to ESPN Wisconsin’s Gabe Neitzel two weeks ago when I joined him for “Packed Lunch.”  His response, which I thought was sufficient, was that he needed to see the defense play more aggressively on third downs and avoid so much off-coverage on crucial snaps.

Are there certain numerical benchmarks that you need to see the team clear to jump back on the Barry bandwagon? Is it more about the off- or press-coverage debate? Are you just over the Barry era in general? Drop your answer down in the comments.

1. Better tackling
2. Better situational football (ie lining up DBs 10 yards off WRs on 3rd & 3).
3. Consistent run D

Leave for another team. The guy is a failure

  1.   More Aggressive (Stunts, Blitzes)
  2.   More Creative Blitzes -not just 6 guys running into blockers...more overloads
  3.   Less Predictable
  4.   Stopping 3rd and less that 2 yards to go - runs

Just turn the guys loose, let them play aggresive.
I would much rather see our db's get burnt for a big play every once in awhile, instead of watching a team eat up the clock on 15 play drives.

Buckeye, I took the liberty of copying your post in another thread to here:

All about the turnover ratio, always has been, always will be.

2020 and 2021 Packers were near the top in creating turnovers.

2022 The Packers were only Plus 2, but they created many of those turnovers in their  4 game win streak at the end of the year to get to that plus 2 point. Aaron and the offense had the most turnovers since I believe 2008 last year.

The Packers need too get back to controlling the clock,
Scoring in the red zone.
Creating turnovers.

They do that and they will be in every game.

Not to be pejorative, but turnovers are overrated IMO.

A turnover early in the possession is especially helpful, but so is a '3 and out'.     Buckeye, per your previous post, I think we both want more aggressive defenses that give us more 3 and outs to keep our offense on the field and defense off the field.

Yes a turnover, after the opposition drives 60 yards is great, but a 3 and out early is much better.

The Packers usually played two high Safeties zone defense, the surprise play call was a single high Safety and man to man coverage. Later Amos said he strongly thought, abd recreated not calling a time out and being like, "are you sure?" about this play call, as it was out of norm in that situation.

I'm starting to forget names, but I believe it was Redmond that was the deep Safety, and he had three choices. From his left to right (QB's right to left)

1) Alexander in one on one man coverage

2) Amos and another Packers, maybe a LB, on a two on one receiver running in the middle.

3) King one on one with a speedster WR.

And Redmond was an idiot and choose option #2... and I say idiot, because now it was a three on one, where Amos seemed like he had the guy locked up the entire time one on one, and he already had additional help.

Helping either outside CB in their one on ones clearly would of been more helpful, but helping King in a matchup vs speed would of been best.

Redmond also dropped AT LEAST two easy INTs that game. Though I say easy (they were lobs which he got under fairly easily) but the sun looked like it potential could of played a factor. And there might of been a third, though not as easy. I have wondered if was would of had Savage deep and Redmond in the dime role that Savage was filling, would things of turned out differently.

And now the DC could say hey we tried playing press, look what happened? lol

Yes, I know, situations are situational, but you know there are some box store geniuses out there that would cite it.

beast (5h) : Wow, 95% drop in investment revenue? Would be interesting to hear the details of why...
dfosterf (25-Jul) : It's my one day deal complaint dept. on shareholder meeting day
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Probably a homer access credential intimidation kinda thing
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Meathead "journalists" skip this, concentrating on operational revenue when convenient. They switch when net revenue is more favorable.
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Resulting in an actual drop of net revenue of 12.5%. She is from Minnesota. Just sayin'
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Any plans to hold Maureen Smith (CFO) accountable for a 95% drop in investment revenue?
