There's been a lot of chatter about the Packers taking a WR in the first round. This isn't really anything new. We hear this almost every single year. HOWEVER, the narrative around it this year is it will done in spite of Aaron Rodgers. Pretty pathetic, isn't it?

Listen, the Packers had an elite QB that get Tier 1 production from Tier 2 talent at skill positions. Did they put to much on their QB? We can debate that and even probably come to an agreement.

When Rodgers took over in 2008 he had Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson (rookie), James Jones and Jermichael Finley (rookie).  That's not a bad set of targets there. Coincidently, the pick for Jordy Nelson was the ... wait for it ... JETS 2nd round pick.

In 2023 Jordan Love currently has Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Samori Toure, Bo Melton and Josiah Deguara.

So it just seems logical they'll add a WR and TE, right?

The need would seem to be far greater, dare I say 200% greater, at tight end.
Go Packers!!!!

ProFootballFocus has less than 15 WR's in the top 100.

While the Packers do need a WR it is not their greatest need. More than likely they have a WR1 & 2. They need depth not a starter. Quality WRs can be acquired in the 2nd round as the Packers have shown time and time again. As Martha mentioned TE is a greater need. Safety is a greater need. Edge is a greater need.

Add to this, I simly do not want to hear for the next 10 years how GB refused to get a WR in the first round for Rodgers. They tried. They even moved up in the draft to pick up a WR 3 years ago only to have SF make a trade with Minnysoda and grabbed Brandon Aiyuk. GB then took Love.

I can already see the deluge of stupid clickbait articles or talk show hosts bringing this up if GB takes Jaxon Smith-Njigba at #13.

That said, it would hilariously ironic if it did happen

This Jaxon Smith-Njigba guy didn't even play much last season. And when he did he wasn't effective. Apparently he missed the brunt of the season from ... oh you will LOVE this one ... hamstring injury? Do we really wanna burn up 13th overall on a hamstring injury WR? Do we not have enough soft tissue injuries already? I think Sammy Watkins and Christian Watson both missed games from hamstring injuries.

Didn't Gute try to move up to 32 last year to take Watson?
Minny had both the 32nd  and 33rd pick, refused to trade the 32nd pick,  then made a deal wirh Gute for the 33rd pick.
I'm guessing Minny wanted to keep the 32nd pick for the 5th season option.

I may be wrong,

Hope they pass on wr in the 1st.
Gute seems to like the 6'3" and taller guys.
There are a couple of those guys available in the 3rd round.
I think Gute will go defense 1st rnd, EDGE or DT.
I also hope he finds a trade partner to move down and pick up an extra pick or 2 .
, A trade down to 26(Cowboys) is a real possibility.
I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!

Word is that the Packers tried moving into the final picks of round one to get Christian Watson. Packers wanted 32nd overall (probably for 5th year option), but Vikings said no, but you can have 34th overall for that compensation (53rd overall and 59th overall).

None of these guys has the height/weight/RAS the Packers expect. It's a Gutey thing.

It's Njigba or no WR in the first. He's a slot guy btw.

Imo they're more likely to go TE. Mayer might be somewhat pro-ready.
