As usual, there’s two sides to every story.

Regarding the inevitable divorce between the Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers, we had previously heard one side. Today, we heard some of the other side.

Via Matt Schneidman of TheAthletic.com, G.M. Brian Gutekunst told reporters at the league meeting in Arizona that the team tried to contact Aaron Rodgers “many times” during the offseason to discuss how he fits in the team’s future.

Rodgers, according to Gutekunst, never responded.

“Our inability to reach him or for him to respond in any way,” Gutekunst said. “I think at that point we just kind of had to — I had to do my job and reach out and understanding that a trade could be possible.”

That’s a very different story than the one Rodgers told to Pat McAfee 12 days ago. Rodgers said that, when the 2022 season ended, the Packers told the four-time MVP that they wanted him back. Rodgers said that, at some point after the season ended, he learned that the Packers were shopping him. (Rodgers later contradicted this story by saying that he sensed during the 2022 season that the Packers wanted to move on.)

Under Green Bay’s version, the team repeatedly tried to engage Rodgers in a conversation about the future — “many times” — and that he ignored their overtures.
The good news, I suppose, is that he didn’t text back something like this: “Lose my number. Good try tho.”

The end result is the relationship has been permanently fractured. Both sides seem to accept the outcome, even if the Packers regret the path Rodgers chose to take.
“Certainly whenever a player may have issues, you prefer that they talk to you directly and not do it in the media, but that’s not necessarily the way he goes about it and that’s OK,” Gutekunst told reporters.

Yes, it’s over. The sooner the Packers and Jets finalize a trade, the better off everyone will be.

Was hoping this would get done before "THE SHIT SHOW" started.

Not gonna happen.

Now someone or someones have to be the bad guy(s).

Seems most on Social media wanted this to become another Brett Favre saga.

Can't wait.

Not to confuse,  I do not consider Packershome as "Social Media".

In all seriousness, I'm a little surprised this stuff is coming out before the deal is officially announced. But I take this as a sign that it's basically agreed to at this point, and this and Gute's earlier message about not getting a 1st are the start of the "soften the blow" PR campaign to the fanbase. Make Rodgers' look like an asshat on the way out - maybe deservedly so, maybe not. Who really knows?

Captain Ramius:
"Once again, we play our dangerous
game against our  old adversary"

Executive Officer:

"Captain, It would have been better if you had not sent that letter."

Gutenkunst dove The Red October with his comments. Now everybody is shooting torpedoes at our asses willy-nilly.

I just hope some sort of deal was consummated before he decided to run his jib. What a cluster-f#ck.

He DEVALUED Rodgers trade value by any known criteria with those comments in the middle of the negotiations with the Jets.

What a dumbass move, regardless of the right or wrong of it. Gute, you are no Captain Ramius...He knew what the f#ck he was doing, you...not so much.

I like this. I'm glad Brian spoke on it. I've seen a few people talking about leverage and I must say, if you think this adds or removes leverage, you probably have little to no experience in negotiations. I like his comments because he's not being pissy or anything, he's just saying his version of the truth, just like Aaron Rodgers did.

I think if you gauge both "truths", you find the truth in the middle. And it really seems like Rodgers just wanted full control over his destiny. I know, that's easy to say because Rodgers literally said almost those exact words.  I believe the words were when Packers selected Jordan Love, the decision of where he finished his career wasn't so much in his hands. And if you look at all the evidence over the last three or four years, it really sounds like someone who was about to get fired well oh yeah fook you, I quit!

I say this because Rodgers said he got the sense all season the Packers were ready to move on. Then after the season he doesn't return calls to the Packers? I would piece it all together, but I know facts are boring and sensationalized tantrums are more interesting. Just think about the contract and what Rodgers has said and his press conference blasting of the franchise a year or two ago. The dots be there to connect.

Gute should have kept his yap shut until the ink was dry, period.

He can diplomatically or otherwise enlighten us all on the realities of dealing with the complicated fellow AFTER the trade is consummated.

Unless, of course, an experienced negotiator is correct in the assumption that a prospective general manager would not put any kind of serious consideration as to the value of the player that he is contemplating  aquiring... a guy who apparently doesn't bother to return the phone calls of his previous general manager...you know, the exact  same job you have.

I guess some might think that of little import in the big picture in the art of the deal, so to speak.

I'm not one of those people.

Because as we all saw Rodgers go nuclear in a press conference about how the organization fails at this and at that. You remember that? Yeah, that was Rodgers telling the world I AM NOT HAPPY HERE.  You know he's not happy. I know he's not happy. The Jets know he's not happy. Hell, the world knows it because Rodgers has said numerous times he doesn't feel the Packers want him back! This is straight forward stuff here. Maybe those details were forgotten by some of us?

Rodgers doesn't want to be with the Packers, but as he said on McAfee, he "intends" to play for the Jets. So, it's safe for the Jets to feel communication will be improved. Why? BECAUSE RODGERS WANTS TO JOIN THE JETS!

So, no, nothing Brian said changes anything whatsoever. Brian's comments were nothing more than illuminating (calm down nerdmann, I didn't say illuminati) FANS of some details that Rodgers conveniently left out.

This is the NFL, this isn't the playground. Joe Douglas isn't gonne be like so, I was thinking of that 1st rounder, but hold on, Rodgers didn't return your calls? Hmm, let's change that 1st to a 3rd rounder.

The art of the deal isn't being illustrated via crayons, it's time to put on the big point panties and look at the big picture. And remember the things that were said more than ten seconds ago.

As for the saga. I know it can suck because it probably feels like mom and dad going through some shit in your living room. But nothing we can do to change it. Look, we survived 2008. We can freaking survive anything. Aaron Rodgers chose Pat McAfee where Brett Favre went with that Greta Van Susteren lady. We got the playbook on this drama! haha

Anytime you have the face of the franchise leaving, it's going to be some crap. Is this a shit show? Hardly feels that way to me. Maybe I'm desensitized because of 2008. 🤷‍♂️ But I've listened to the actual words being spoken from the sources. It's really not that bad at all.

NOW the Matt LaFleur being stood up in game plan meetings thing? That's where I'd say we can call it clickbait and a shit show.

beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
