After the 2007 season concluded, Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy knew Brett Favre was going to return. After giving Brett a little space, they pressured him into making a decision. They were confident they knew he'd be their QB and likely didn't want the "will he or won't he" drama. Problem is that after the season is over, many athletes are sore, exhausted and retirement looks enticing. When Brett said he'd retire, this came as a shock to both Ted and Mike.

Brett has said it was the first time they weren't saying things like Brett we love you, we want you back and since that wasn't said, Brett assumed it was time to hang it up. In other words, all parties failed to communicate efficiently.

Are the Packers doing a similar thing with Aaron Rodgers?

Rodgers has twice said the decision about him returning need to be "mutual", yet, said no one has said the Packers didn't want him back. Aaron did say it "just a feeling". Brian Gutekunst today said the Packers made a huge commitment to Aaron last year with the contract and it wasn't just for 2022.

We all saw the passionate speeches from Matt LaFleur about him wanting Rodgers back and how he got teary eyed and stuff.

We all also know that Rodgers is hyper sensitive so does he need Brian and Matt knocking his door down saying we love you, come back Aaron?

I know I'm now laying this out too well, my apologies, but all of that Favre stuff is still fresh on my head and my goodness there are a lot of similarities here.

I find it difficult to believe team has no "out" in that contract.

Even so, I believe they do have some sort of a deal in place.

If he retires after one season into that contract, I think that really screws the Packers plans up.
