It appears the Packers have demoted Sammy Watkins. At least, on the depth chart anyway.  The top three WR's are Allen Lazard, Christian Watson and Randall Cobb. 2nd team is Romeo Doubs, Sammy Watkins and Samori Toure.

Say what you want about the front office. I really like our rookie wide receivers. I still think we could have gone about securing Watson differently and not lost that 2nd 2nd in the process, but they aren't as smart as me, or for that matter, several others here 😉

They re-signed Allen Lazard to go along with Randall Cobb and the rookies. The outsider they brought in was the oft-injured underachieving Sammy Watkins.

Injuries are part of the game, yes, but if the WR corps was healthy all season, even HALF less injuries, this WR corps is far better.  If Packers signed Christian Kirk to a four-year, $72 million contract with $37 million guaranteed, people would be bitching about that too. Even though, there's no way the Packers could have even offered that contract.

The Packers have so much money tied into a handful of players, it has them strapped. You can't go "all-in" every single year. You have to pay the price at some point. And this season, they're paying the price.

I'm not saying it isn't frustrating. I'm saying, we have to step back and look at the big picture instead of just hyper focusing on the lack of WR talent. You have the back to back NFL MVP. You expect him to make WR's better, not completely miss wide open WR's. I know, I know, no one wants to admit that the WR's are getting open because my gosh, we can't fault the savior Aaron Rodgers, but every week there are more and more clips showing WR's getting separation, getting open and the QB in a CLEAN pocket and hesitating.

And who can blame 12 for hesitating? The OL is getting abused. The morons put a LG coming off ACL injury at RT. Every smart person knew that was a mistake. Yet, these coaches outsmart themselves.

Right now, I'm just glad to see Sammy with the lame hammy appear to be demoted.

I know I said a lot here. Just don't think I'm against you. I am with you on the frustration part. But I just don't feel our WR's are the MAIN culprit (outside of Sammy Watkins).

I think all of the veteran receivers have been underwelming. 3rd down possession receivers at best. The rookies show flashes of potential but as has been said- they are rookies.
As far as Sammy goes, he's been 2nd string all season. Among WRs he's 5th in yards, targets and receptions. He was always going to be a one year rental while they waited for the youngsters to get some experience.

Yes, Rodgers missing wide open guys is a major problem.  I hope it's because of the thumb, and not that he's hit the "over the hill" wall.
IF it is that, then he won't be any better next season, if he doesn't retire.

It looked like Rodgers and Watkins were clearly on different pages at times and from the Kurt Warner video, it looks awfully like Watkins was running clearly wrong routes to what the rest of the team was doing.

As for people complaining about management, other just being mad the season is bad... I think the biggest complaints are draft picks from previous drafts not panning out....

Especially with the focus on OL and Defense, with a ton of high picks and our team doesn't nessarily look like they had high picks there.

Yes, Sammy Watkins is good for one thing and one thing only. That is go routes. Any post or comeback or curl or slant ... nope. He doesn't know how to cross the face or get over top when needed or cut under on in routes.

3) Did we release the wrong OLB Williams? (Currently it seems so)

4) Need more OLB depth with releasing one of the OLBers (Engbare seem like a keeper)

5) Play caller (which now seems like the only huge issue with me).

So I don't have that much of an issue  with the defense.

On offense, Gute has had some big misses...

We can can't seem to fix the TE/large slot role which is absolutely huge in this offense and why they kept trying to trade for TE Waller. But sorta seems like two 3rd round picks and misses right there at TE. Three 3rd if you count WR Rodgers was supposed to be a versatile tweener WR/RB and they use TEs in versatile roles.

And OL, Myers and Newman had clearly better OL picked with the very next OL pick.

So I think we need a better defensive play caller, and some better OL, TE and large slot WR evaluators...

Though, I am wondering with time if maybe Doubs could be that large slot WR role. He's got the route running. Lazard and Watson on the outside.

beast (5h) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (5h) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (10h) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (10h) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (11h) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (11h) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (11h) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
