On the Facebook I read some family and friends bemoaning "that is why you play starters in preseason" and my goodness, what a lowly excuse. They ain't got nothing to say when they are told Vikings starters didn't play in preseason and they deployed a new head coach, new offensive coordinator and new defensive coordinator. They also went from a run first offense to one more similar to Rams and switched from 4-3 to 3-4 on defense. Yes, the latter is frivolous as most teams spend a fraction of time in their base.

I will say this about preseason games. They get you into that "win a game" mode if nothing more which breeds urgency. Urgency, something the Packers lacked.

It was like they expected to lose, so why try?
That dropped 75 yard TD in their first drive set the tone for the whole game.
Playing in preseason wouldn't have fixed anything.

Vikings also had three seasons worth of tape to review. Packers have zero on Vikings. Let's see how Vikings do after teams start finding their trends.

I am sorry Kevin. I disagree. I don't care what other teams do or don't do.
Not playing starters because you are AFRAID the MIGHT get injured is a weak excuse. Life happens and players get injured. They can't run away. I remember players from the 80's and 90's say they looked forward to the first real hit they got (and gave). There is being in shape and there is being in football shape. It's not the same. There is no way to simulate football shape without competing against another team.

In the MLF era, the offense has started poorly 3 of 4 times. The only exception was the COVID season of 2020 with no fans in the stands. The defense has started poorly 3 times as well. The only decent opener was Matt's first season in 2019 when they held the bares to 3 points.

When we add the post bye games that more times than not are losses, this team is soft. They get manhandled repeatedly on the OL and DL. If the DB's are aggressive on the LOS, our WRs have no answers. Soft.

Younger players (1-3 years) certainly benefit from preseason games, in my opinion.

One thing I think preseason can help with his tackling because the NFLPA sissified the CBA where they can't tackle much in practice anymore.

What do you think preseason games are going to do? Vikings didn't play starters and they have new offense and defense. Maybe we struggled with them because we didn't know what to prepare for and they had over 50 games of tape to find our flaws? 🤷‍♂️

I was thinking more along the lines of, that Rodgers should have been in Green Bay right after the draft when the new players arrived.
That would have been a time to get to know the new wide receivers and start getting on the same page.
I think that would be tremendously helpful in getting on the same page.
That's something a real leader would have done rather than run off to some remote place to smoke psychedelic mushrooms.

I also thought I read somewhere that Rodgers was calling/texting the guys things throughout the off-season to help with expectations and things to focus on. I can't recall where though, or if it was in an interview.

Yes, QB was enjoying a ayahuasca retreat in 2020. Did he do it again this off-season? Anyway, Tom Brady was recruiting guys like Julio Jones via Instagram and our QB was getting high. Wild world lol

And to your point Zero, yes I believe Rodgers stated during his interview on the Pat McAfee show that he got high again this offseason.

If they and their coaching staffs can't think of anything that will improve the team by scrimmaging against real competition then they should not be in the NFL. For example, timing is something they can work on. Even if it's not a formation they will use. Aaron can throw the ball to a receiver in practice at half speed with no defenders getting up in their grill but they haven't really learned anything have they? Even if it's preseason Aaron can learn the tendencies of the WR when they are pressured. The formation may not look the same but a go route is a go route. It may be vanilla on teh LOS but it's not vanilla when the receiver sprints down field or cuts in after 10 yards.

Again, I don't care what any other team does or doesn't do. Being successful 1 out of 4 times means something has to be done differently. It's 0 for 4 if you look at the offense and the defense as actually being on the same team. Not once with MLF as HC has the team looked good week 1. Not once.
Rationalize all you want. Make excuses in the end the final answer is still NOT ONCE.

wpr (17-Apr) : 7 days
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Spotting ball isn't changing, only measuring distance is, Which wasn't the issue.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : The spotting of the ball IS the issue. Not the chain gang.
