JaQuavian Walker | Inside Linebacker | Georgia | 6'4" - 241 lbs.

Overview
Walker had to wait his turn at Georgia, but he has become a well-schooled, instinctive linebacker ready for the NFL game. He has good size and clear eyes from the second level, with a talent for recognizing play design. He plays disciplined, team-oriented football but is unlikely to become a top-level playmaker as a pro. His chase speed and body control are just average when ranging to tackle or covering in space. Walker is dependable and consistent and projects as a good backup with eventual starter potential at inside linebacker.

Strengths
• Instinctive, with confident eyes in the box.
• Plays with lively, ready feet.
• Quick recognition into response.
• Mirrors runner's lane choice from his perch.
• Recognizes blocking scheme and play design.
• Sees past climbing blockers.
• Snappy hands to play off blocks quickly.
• Keeps outside shoulder uncovered.
• Consistent hustle away from the ball.
• Reliable, face-up tackler near the line.
• Weaknesses
• Has some tightness in his hips.
• Upright in second-level movements.
• Average body control in scrape to the football.
• Play strength doesn't always match his size.
• Inconsistent finding the best level to elude block.
• Gets stuck to blocks that find him.
• Erratic vision and response in coverage.
• Will overrun his target in space.
Put him beside Campbell and I think we could potentially have one of the best ILB combos in the league. Rotate Barnes in there some & we’re good. I like the pick.

I thought they might go Edge or S with #22 so a LB surprised me a bit but I can see why they went this route. We're one injury away from having nothing in the middle. And if he's good in coverage, than I can live with it, esp after all the years of watching TEs torch us over the middle or watching RBs take dumpoffs with daylight and no defender within 10 yards (looking at you AJ Hawk). I also can't help but think of how deeply ironic it is that after years of fans clamoring for a first round ILB Green Bay finally drafted one but no one expected it.
ā€œNah. I like having the island. It’s pretty cool...not too many visitorsā€

Dont like this pick for the first selection. Reminds me of another AJ hawk, reaching for a player that can be chosen on day 2. Packers should of chosen Devin Lloyd. Just my two cents.

The Chris Simms video talking about him before the draft made me more happy about the pick, thanks for posting that.

But I didn't like the pick, mainly because I thought others were better, specifically Edge Jermaine Johnson, whom Sims called a top 10 pick, and as someone on ESPN said, teams must know something the media doesn't as he fell a lot further than you'd expect Johnson to fall.

Though I also had a bit of a draft crush on DT Wyatt, I thought him in the 3 tech and Clark at the nose would be perfect long term.

Also the Packers have been using a 3rd Safety as the dime coverage LB and there was S Hill (whom can cover like a CB and be a great nickel CB) and S Cine, more the power hitter but also good speed to make sure he doesn't get beat deep there to fill that role.

But sounds like the Packers were also considering having two ILBers makes it harder for the offense to read which one is filling what role on certain plays, and this allows them to stay in nickel package and not have to go to the dime package.

So it's almost also a chess move, for creating confusion, as well as having two ILBers that can play both the run and pass at a high level.

So now if he goes later than that he fell? No one has all GM's draft boards so saying someone fell is basically saying "Umm I am fooled by mock drafts".

BTW, I am one of them that said it, so not targeting anyone, lol.

I thought he could fall and had him mocked into a mock draft for the Packers.

I wasn't fooled by the locks, I'm looking at the tape, he can absolutely be an elite edge rusher. assuming he's got his head on straight, I wouldn't be surprised if Johnson is at least as good as Preston Smith and he can probably be better, as I think Johnson run defense and physicality is better and pass rush equal as good.

I was a bit greatly surprised with the pick. The more I hear/read the more I like it. Typical Gute selection. What I like the best is that he can TACKLE! Hooray!
