As for your statement, I do agree there is a level of selfishness almost needed to reach some of the pinnacles of success. One of them that stuck out most to me was how shitty of a father Dale Earnhardt Sr was. He was literally racing for rent and if he didn't podium, they didn't eat, and sometimes got evicted. There are a plethora of stories similar. The point being is you need that support (e.g. understanding and PATIENT spouse) to help pick up the slack for you to achieve your dream. Another example for someone you might be aware of is Steve Jobs.
I think Cobb knew he'd probably be cut and wanted to remain with the Packers and was grateful for the opportunity and took the salary cap slashing. X million to play with your best-friend is better than Y million to play elsewhere. Remember, he wasn't shy about how it was being a Texans player, lol.
