Packers offered South Dakota State University wide receiver JaRon Harris a free agent contract. There isn't a ton of information on the guy, but I thought I'd bring him up because he grew up in my hometown.

The guy graduated a year ahead of me (from a rival high school in town where a lot of my close friends went). In any case, South Dakota people think pretty highly of him. It'll undoubtedly be tough for him to make the team, but I'm rooting for him.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

My dad played Div II football for SDSU back in the 1970s; it's a Div I program now. That's where he met a 25-year-old graduate student who later became my mother.

Looks like we are NOT standing pat on offense!

Northwestern back Sutton agrees to deal
By Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel
Posted: Apr. 26, 2009

Green Bay - The Green Bay Packers didn't draft a running back but they got one soon after the seven-round selection process was completed.

The Packers won a five-team competition to sign Tyrell Sutton, a small but versatile running back from Northwestern University. Sutton, who stands 5 feet 7 inches and weighs 213 pounds, ran a 4.71-second 40-yard dash during his pro day workout.

In order to get Sutton to agree to a three-year deal, the Packers paid him a modest signing bonus, according to his agent, Alonzo Shavers.

"It's a great place to go compete," Shavers said. "The big thing was that the Packers held to their word that they wouldn't draft another player at the position. They really wanted him. We evaluated the situation and were excited for Tyrell to be there. We think he fits great."

Sutton, who registered a vertical jump of 30 inches and did 12 repetitions on the bench press, was Ohio's Mr. Football as a high school senior and was a freshman All-American at Northwestern after rushing for 1,476 yards his first season.

Sutton had two serious injures - to an ankle in 2007 and a broken wrist in 2008 - that sidetracked him. When he was healthy last season, Sutton rushed for 890 yards with 305 yards receiving and eight touchdowns.

Sutton could fill a need as a third-down back for the Packers, but he'll have to compete with Brandon Jackson and DeShawn Wynn, both of whom have experience blocking out of the backfield.

In addition to Sutton, the Packers agreed to terms with:

Western Michigan wide receiver Jamarko Simmons, according to his agent, Cary Fabrikant. The 6-2, 231-pound Simmons is a former teammate of Packers receiver Greg Jennings and reportedly ran a 4.5-second 40-yard dash.

North Dakota State wide receiver Kole Heckendorf, according to his agent, Christopher Murray. The Mosinee native caught 178 passes for 2,732 yards and 17 touchdowns in college.

Michigan tight end Carson Butler, according to his agent, Don Yee. Butler is 6-5, 250 pounds and ran the 40 in 4.72 seconds.

Trying out: The Packers are giving the lesser known of two former Oak Creek High School standouts a chance to make it in the NFL.

Defensive end Rhyan Anderson, a former high school teammate of Wisconsin tight end and New York Giants draft pick Travis Beckum's, has received an invitation from the Packers to take part in their rookie camp this weekend on a tryout.

Anderson, who was highly recruited out of Oak Creek and played at the University of Miami, wound up at New Mexico State. He has had two major shoulder operations but said Sunday night that he was completely healthy.

He said he would attend the tryout but added that he was still waiting to hear from his agent about an opportunity to sign a contract with another team.

The Packers are also bringing UW-River Falls center Scott Witte, a native of Cedarburg, in for a tryout. The 6-5, 328-pound Witte started for 3 years for River Falls.

Also, the Packers are bringing in Western Michigan tight end Brandon Ledbetter for a tryout.

Welcome back: When Ryan Pickett returns from vacation, there likely will be a message waiting for him from coach Mike McCarthy.

The subject? The potential for him to move from his customary spot at nose tackle to end in certain situations, a shift made possible after the drafting of B.J. Raji.

I think Ryan Pickett can go out and play end, McCarthy said when asked about the position in general. You forget about his foot quickness and his agility. He may not look like the most prototype 3-4 defensive end, but thats definitely a position we will talk to Ryan (about) when he gets back from vacation.

Holy fuck, I found a reference  online that the following UDFAs have been signed, but I haven't been able to confirm it with a reputable source yet:

OG Dario Nanni (Stillman Valley)
LB Willie Williams (Union College)
P Kurt Achter (UW-Oshkosh)

Another unconfirmed signing :

WR Andy Brodell - Iowa

I must confess I'm more intrigued by some of these UDFA signings than I am by a couple of our draft picks.

I think it's safe to say that Ruvell Martin's days in Green Bay are numbered.

I doubt it. Alot of these guys will be stuck on the practice squad or just cut completely before the season started. If we wanted a very late-round or undrafted rookie to start right away, we could've thrown Brett Swain in there last year and dumped Ruvell Martin.

Jamarko Simmons is a big boy, jesus. 230?

Boldin and Owens don't even hit 220.

I hope Ruvell isn't gone. He's Rodgers' best bud on the team, and he's useful in a lot of situations, with his height and hands.

Wow, Simmons could be nasty:

Strong guy with a burst and good hands. I predict right now he makes the team. Ruvell's got some work ahead of him. 😞

Zero2Cool (24-Jan) : Raiders hired someone from the elderly home.
dfosterf (24-Jan) : I'm going with a combination of the two.
beast (24-Jan) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
