With the scramble for undrafted free agents right around the corner, let's begin a position-by-position look at the best of what's left (posted this first yesterday on Twitter; you can follow me now at @BobMcGinn):
Quarterbacks: UW's Scott Tolzien (No. 11 in my pre-draft ratings); Delaware's Pat Devlin (No. 12); Boise State's Mike Coughlin (No. 17).
Running backs: VPI's Darren Evans (No. 22); Auburn's fleet Mario Fannin (No. 23); UMD's Isaac Odim (No. 24); UW's John Clay (No. 25).
Fullbacks: Only prospect of interest is Pitt's Henry Hynoski (No. 5). Five FBs were drafted, more than in most years. Could Clay play FB?
Wide receivers: Fort Valley's Ricardo Lockette (No. 19); Cincy's Armon Binns (No. 20); OSU's Dane Sanzenbacher (No. 22). 28 were drafted.
Tight ends: South Dakota State's/Kewaunee's Colin Cochart (No. 10); Purdue's Kyle Adams (No. 11); UNC's Zack Pianalto (No. 12).
Tackles: South Carolina's Jarriel King (No. 14, big character risk); East Carolina's Willie Smith (No. 16); Georgia's Josh Davis (No.17).
Guards: Arkansas' Ray Dominguez (No. 10); UConn's Zach Hurd (No. 13). Brad Thorson, formerly of Homestead High and Kansas, was No. 20.
Centers: Oregon State's Alex Linnenkohl (No. 6); TCU's Jacob Kirkpatrick (No. 8); Mizzou's Tyler Barnes (No.9). Lots of decent centers left.
Defense to come later today. It's time to stop hacking around area golf courses and get serious about football.
