if i can figure out how to broadcast from my desktop on justin tv i will broadcast these games. Some of you younger folks would laugh at the field and how the players dressed. Hell we have cheerleaders during this game and Frank Gifford and Don Merideth along with OJ simpson lol. Howard cossell was afraid to come to Green Bay. Talk about a great wr corp we had Lofton JJ Jefferson and Paul Coffman.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Not to mention Favre fellator. I can't imagine Kornheiser and Madden in the same booth together. The slobber would short out the audio equipment.

Interesting (though poorly written) comment from PackersNews:

Thats why its foolish and emotional to judge and call for peopls jobs pre-maturely. The packers has had an execellent draft creating much needed competion in the tranches and are still able to have enough cap room to re-sign core players. Not to mention they still added a few young players in free-agency. THis overall was excellent management strategy. If we had left it up to the fare weather fans, we would have spent most of the cap room on over priced free agents. Im glad there has been pesticide sprayed all over alot of these fare weather bitter fans who swear they are GM's. I hope the pesticide keeps them far away and based on the crap I have seen spewed on here, their fan cards should be revoked. Also, for the fans who bragged about selling their season passes, good, now real fans can have them and you should never be allowed back on the band wagon.

moral of stroy, support your team and wait longer than a season to gripe and call for peoples heads

P.S. The Pack is Back

I couldn't agree more. Continuity is the bedrock of long-term success. All the impatient fans calling for management's head after a couple of seasons of disappointing performance are only guaranteeing they'll never experience sustained success.

fair well thought out post, oskar. the things that you think are the things that are my nagging fears. they're in the back of my mind, but I feel like that's just my inner pessimist talking. I fully believe that we don't see the world as it is. Rather, we see the world as we are. so, these are my nagging concerns.

"Continuity is the bedrock of long-term success."

Thank you William Clay Ford! :)

I could cite dozens of studies in continuity in this league over the years that swirled around the toilet endlessly before the turd disappeared (see "Detroit Lions"). I will grant you that time is necessary in developing a SB caliber team, but in general, that development is recognized fairly early on.

As a for-instance, it was apparent by 1994 that the Packers were on the cusp of an appearance at the big dance; they had a HOF caliber QB and they had Reggie, they had the coaching and a stellar GM (who wasn't afraid to drop a buck or two on the floor), and they had depth.

We're not there yet. I think we have the QB, but there are obvious gaps elsewhere. Hopefully, Raji will help fill the gap in the defense. Our offense was not too much of a problem last year, but Ryan Grant needs to justify his paycheck IMO. Our wides, who presumably are so deep that Ted passed on Crabtree, are not so deep as we think. I would have passed on Crabtree also due to his personality issues that other teams recognized, and also because I believe we have the best wideout in the league already in Greg. But Driver is getting up there in years; Jordy will be fine and Jones might surprise everyone next year with a return to healthy status. We could've used a stud in this category, but I have no problem with picking the D studs ahead of the wides.

Bottom line on this thread; I still think Ted Thompson will never be successful enough to get us to the SB, but he did OK in this draft. I also still have my doubts about Mike McCarthy's play calling, but we'll see what transpires this season.

I fully expect this subject line to appear again next January.

If there's one thing I appreciate, it's a reasoned critique. I respect your reservations as far as Thompson's ability to take the team to the top, even though personally I think he can do it. I also appreciate the reasonable tone - it makes it easier to see things from your perspective and to engage in an actual dialogue.

I'm curious - personally, I'd like to still see a signing like a Vonnie Holliday. Post-draft, what's your take?

Ah. Someone who can think for themselves. :thumbright:

The thing is, Mike McCarthy had excellent playcalling in '07. Then in '08, it sucked. Why? You tell me.
Ted Thompson has had on years and off years as well. '08 he left a lot to be desired. I'm loving everything he's done so far in '09 though.

Agreed about continuity. You should be able to tell within a few years if you're headed in the right direction. In my profession, if you can't show what you're doing within 3 weeks, you're outta a job. And I have no problem with that.

I do think we're deep in WR, and us passing up on Crabtree (which I'm glad we did); I wasn't even thinking of character issues. I'm simply thinking the upgrade at WR would not be much of a difference maker while upgrade at DT will change games. Remember how teams would run up the middle against us last year without any effort?

And yes, Grant looked world class in '07 then in '08, got paid and looks, well, average. He better come out and play in '09.

All along i have been saying "give Ted Thompson a chance".
Too many people have jumped all over his being a 'tightwad".
While all along, he has been building the team up. We were in salary cap hell, and he has worked his butt off to get us out of that.
That, and building the team through the draft the last few years put him in a position where he could draft by our main NEEDS, and actually do something that even shocked ME. Give up some picks to go and get someone you really want that you believe will be a big help to the team.

He never wavered from his plan, reguardless of the P&M'ing from many of the fans.
Now......my feeling is, that our D will be GREATLY improved this year. Our O will also be better, as it won't have as much pressure on it because our D will not make our O feel like they HAVE to score every time we have the ball.
JMO of course, and only time will tell if I'm right. (And Ted Thompson too!) LOL!

I think (and hope) some of the piss poor offensive play calling was because of the 'newness' of Aaron Rodgers. McCarthy SAID he had full faith in him. Review the games. Those play calls don't show faith in your QB to win the game for you. He took the ball out of Aaron's hands way too often.

Aaron had one of if not the best QB Rating in the red zone and we still didn't open him up enough.

I've said Aaron won't lose us as many games as he'll win. Meaning, he won't play stupid, and plays smart. He's cerebral in his risks.

After last season. I'd completely trust Aaron Rodgers with the ball in the last 2:00 minutes calling plays at the line to win us a game over Mike McCarthy.
