I could cite dozens of studies in continuity in this league over the years that swirled around the toilet endlessly before the turd disappeared (see "Detroit Lions"). I will grant you that time is necessary in developing a SB caliber team, but in general, that development is recognized fairly early on.

As a for-instance, it was apparent by 1994 that the Packers were on the cusp of an appearance at the big dance; they had a HOF caliber QB and they had Reggie, they had the coaching and a stellar GM (who wasn't afraid to drop a buck or two on the floor), and they had depth.

We're not there yet. I think we have the QB, but there are obvious gaps elsewhere. Hopefully, Raji will help fill the gap in the defense. Our offense was not too much of a problem last year, but Ryan Grant needs to justify his paycheck IMO. Our wides, who presumably are so deep that Ted passed on Crabtree, are not so deep as we think. I would have passed on Crabtree also due to his personality issues that other teams recognized, and also because I believe we have the best wideout in the league already in Greg. But Driver is getting up there in years; Jordy will be fine and Jones might surprise everyone next year with a return to healthy status. We could've used a stud in this category, but I have no problem with picking the D studs ahead of the wides.

Bottom line on this thread; I still think Ted Thompson will never be successful enough to get us to the SB, but he did OK in this draft. I also still have my doubts about Mike McCarthy's play calling, but we'll see what transpires this season.

I fully expect this subject line to appear again next January.
