Part of Brian Flores lawsuit against the Dolphins states he was offered an additional $100,000 per loss as the owner was trying to tank for the #1 QB.

Former Browns head coach Hue Jackson stated he was also paid additional amount of money to tank. And some organization connected to him, claimed they had proof of the payments.

1) How do you feel about teams tanking I'm general? (Tanking = Losing on Purpose) Is it a fair part of the game, or is it dirty?

2) How do you feel about them paying additional money for it?

3) Should the NFL do something about it to try to stop it? If so what? And should the Dolphins and Browns owners be punished? What about other teams (such as the Eagles, whom were winning, and then suddenly put in their 3rd string QB and suddenly kept turning the ball over).

4) Technically, offering to pay money for someone to lose is illegal due to gambling rules, so technically the owner making these offers is illegal. Though the laws were more made for people betting on the games, the owners are still paying money to gain a benefit they otherwise might not have. Should law enforcement go after them (assuming there is decent proof).

5) Any other thoughts or comments on this?

What an interesting Question/Subject!!!!

Tanking really does destroy the integrity of the game...and I am sure the gamblers don't care for it either (unless they know about it of course)

Perhaps they could do a lottery type system in regard to WHEN in the season the draft order is set. For example, after the season they draw a ball out of the hopper (ala lotto) with balls numbered weeks 8 through 17. If you sucked at week 8, you just suck and probably deserve a high draft pick. But, you might still have incentive to play well.

That way teams would not have an incentive at week 12 and beyond to 'tank it' if they are out of (or likely to be out of) the playoff picture

TANKS for bringing up the discussion point!!! 🙂

But as you bring up I kind of agree with, I like the lottery style but why not make it like the NBA and take the 10 worse teams and they all get a chance at the #1 but make them all equal amount of balls so it would eliminate the idea of tanking for more balls. I think that would help eliminate it but I can still see a team with the 11 worst record tanking the last 2 games to try and get to 10th worst.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

If they do a lottery type system, then I don't want it to be a ton of teams. Maybe say the bottom 5 teams?

Which this year would be all the teams with less than 5 wins; Jaguars, Lions, Texans, Jets and Giants.

Or maybe just say all the teams will less than 5 wins get into the lottery?

In 2021 that would be 5 teams.
2020: 6 teams
2019: 4 teams
2018: 4 teams
2017: 4 teams
2016: 5 teams

It is more difficult to tank in the NFL than it is in the NBA. 11/22 players in the game vs 5. Tanking using requires the assistance of the QB. The very person you are wanting to replace. Even average QBs are excellent athletes and it's possible for them to throw the team on their back and drag them down field to victory.

If the NFL takes the last 5 or 6 teams and does a lottery, I don't think it would hurt. They have dumber rules than this. The NBA weighted lottery is a little different. Once again only 5 players and getting the very best in a draft can and will improve their record the next season. Getting the best QB won't if the OL is horrible, they have no WR at all or their defense is outrageously poor.

Granted the coach can put the backup QB in the game but the other players are still trying to keep their jobs too. The line will block to the bet of their ability. The RB is going to run. Subbing out one or two players isn't exactly throwing the game. Even when the OC calls a terrible play, the QB can change it at the line.

The worst 5 this year are
NYG
NYJ
Texas
Detroit
Jax
there is one game separating them. Carolina has one more win. Do they try to throw a game or two to get into the Forgetful 5? Who knows. The bares were only 2 wins away. The GM and HC were laying for their lives. No way do they want to throw games. They lost their jobs anyway. Which can and was the same for other bottom teams. Coaches won't want to try and lose unless they are in the first year of their contract. Then again more than a few have lost their job after only one year. Packers canned Ray Rhodes after only one season.

Well.....if he’s going to sue for that, he better have actual proof that he was being told to tank on purpose. Otherwise it’s just his word against the owners.
Being a NFL coach can be a tankless job.🤪

Mucky Tundra (2h) : Or ties, but let's be real here
Mucky Tundra (2h) : Other scenario was Falcons+Rams losses
Mucky Tundra (2h) : Needed a Falcons loss for a Seahawk loss to clinch
buckeyepackfan (3h) : Am I wring in saying if Tge Vikings beat The Seahawks, The Packers clinch?
Mucky Tundra (21-Dec) : Agreed; you stinks
Zero2Cool (21-Dec) : I'm not beating anyone. I stinks.
Mucky Tundra (21-Dec) : rough injury for tank dell. guy can't catch abreak
beast (21-Dec) : So far the college playoffs have sucked... One team absolutely dominates the other
beast (21-Dec) : Well even if you weren't positive towards a guy, you wouldn't nessarily want to tell the media that (if they don't know about it)
Martha Careful (21-Dec) : I think MLF want Love to look past the end half issues, and feel good about his play. Our coaches generally keep a very positive tone.
beast (21-Dec) : I think a great running game will do that for most QBs
packerfanoutwest (21-Dec) : Coach Matt LaFleur has said quarterback Jordan Love is playing the best football of his career.
beast (21-Dec) : Oh, that's how you keep beating buckeye, with cheating
Zero2Cool (20-Dec) : There is a rule that if your name starts with 'b' you lose 15 points. Hey, I don't make the rules, I just enforce them!
wpr (20-Dec) : and then there is Beast. Running away with it all.
beast (20-Dec) : As of tonight, 3 way tie for 2nd in Pick'em, that battle is interesting!
beast (20-Dec) : Lions vs Vikings could be the main last game as it could determine division winners or #1 vs #2 seed
Mucky Tundra (20-Dec) : Or if KC needs to win for the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (20-Dec) : Right now it looks like the only prime worthy games are Det-Minny and KC-Denver (if Denver can clinch a wild card spot)
Mucky Tundra (20-Dec) : The entirety of week 18 being listed as flex is weird
Zero2Cool (19-Dec) : Matt LaFleur today says unequivocally "Ted Thompson had nothing to do with the drafting of Jordan Love."
Zero2Cool (19-Dec) : Apparently, the editing is what pieces comments together. That Ted thing ... fake news.
Zero2Cool (19-Dec) : LaFleur "opportunity that Ted Thompson thought was too good to pass up"
Zero2Cool (19-Dec) : Jordan Love pick was Ted Thompson's idea.
Mucky Tundra (19-Dec) : Kyle Shanahan on signing De'Vondre Campbell as a FA last offseason: “We obviously made a mistake.”
packerfanoutwest (19-Dec) : Alexander’s last season with GB
Martha Careful (18-Dec) : if I were a professional athlete, I would probably look to see who the agent is for Kirk Cousins and then use him
beast (18-Dec) : $100 million fully guaranteed Kirk Cousins gets benched for rookie
Mucky Tundra (18-Dec) : a lower case b
Mucky Tundra (18-Dec) : The real lie is how beast capitalized his name in his message while it's normally spelled with
packerfanoutwest (18-Dec) : haha that's a lie
beast (17-Dec) : Despite what lies other might tell, Beast didn't hate the Winter Warnings, it felt refreshing to Beast for some reason.
Zero2Cool (17-Dec) : whiteout uniforms in general are pretty lame and weak. NFL greed at it's worst
Martha Careful (17-Dec) : The Viking uniforms, the whiteout uniforms specifically absolutely suck
beast (17-Dec) : Thanks Zero2Cool, looks a lot better now
beast (17-Dec) : Seems like someone has a crush on me, can't stop talking about me
Zero2Cool (17-Dec) : Should be gooder now. The forum default theme went to goofy land.
Zero2Cool (17-Dec) : What the hell
packerfanoutwest (17-Dec) : yeah beast hates the Winter Warning Unies
Mucky Tundra (16-Dec) : Okay I'm glad to know it's not just something happening to me lol
Mucky Tundra (16-Dec) : Zero, did you copy the Packers uniforms from last night and white out the board?
beast (16-Dec) : Oh crap, is the board going to the Winter Warning Uniforms too?!? It's all white on white right now!
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : WR Odell Beckham Jr is officially a free agent after clearing waivers.
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : Packers are 6th in sacks.
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : RB David Montgomery will undergo season-ending knee surgery.
Mucky Tundra (16-Dec) : Dan Campbell on onside kick with 12 minutes left: In hindsight, wish I didn’t do that
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : They have that whole 12th man thing so ...
Zero2Cool (16-Dec) : Of the times we've played there, I just can't recall hearing our fans.
wpr (16-Dec) : Well done jdlax. Well done.
wpr (16-Dec) : I think more likely to be Pack fans that live in the area.
