Yes they do practice. And no this isnt some good news hes coming back. Having a damn near season ending back injury and being out so long means he will be rusty and slower than before. Anyone expecting him to return to form prior to injury is going to be disappointed.

And considering that the top healthy backup would of been the Packers 6th OLBer (or worse) if everyone was healthy... a 80% Za'Darius might be better than 100% someone else.

Just need to keep guys healthy, Za'Darius can simply be a 3rd down pass rush specialist as he's comes along and tries to not reinjury his back in run defense.

I have to imagine that if he plays, they feel good about both his back and his conditioning.

He doesn't have to be Z. Smith from 2019/2020 to have a positive impact. He just has to be better than Jonathan Garvin and Tipa Galeai. That's well within his powers if he's healthy enough to put on the pads. I would expect in his first game back he'll be used primarily to spell P. Smith and Gary, and then be worked in more in the second game if he holds up well.

After thinking more about this. Packers were able to implement Whitney Mercilus to their advantage. I gotta think they can do the same with Zadarius.

But anyways, Gary lined up in the middle with DTs on each side of him, and Preston and Burks on the outside.

I believe the Packers have continued this at times but with 3 DTs on the interior and 2 OLBers outside simply because we didn't have the healthy OLB depth especially to keep the OLBers fresh.

I'm thinking the Packers start Z. Smith off like Mercilus, 3rd down pass rush specialist, as that's both a strength Z has over some others, and because in theory, I'm assuming run stopping would be worse on the back, which is what he's coming back from and we want to limited the potential of re-injurying that as much as possible.
